Psychotherapist What is a Psychotherapist? A Psychotherapist is a therapist that practices psychotherapy or also referred to as talk therapy. Talk therapy is the treatment of patients with a problem trying to avoid the use of medication. A psychotherapist helps treat people with problems ranging from stress or family problems, to severe mental disorders. Psychotherapist have many different ways to treat mental disorders and stress. There are many different of kinds of psychotherapy and treatment options. One of the different kinds of treatments are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or (CBT). CBT focuses mainly on depression. IPT also focuses on depression. IPT is different than CBT because the therapist focuses more on how you react or don’t react with other people. The International Society for IPT, says “there are three components to depression Symptom formation, Social functioning, and personality issues”. IPT is also a time limited treatment 12-16 weeks that will help deal with these three components. Psychotherapist deal with a lot of mental disorders. The first example is Borderline Personality Disorder or (BPD). BPD is a mental illness that can cause self-worth or self-esteem problems. If you have self-esteem problems this means that you feel very negative about who you are and feel as if nobody cares about you and you are worthless even thought that is not the case. BPD can also cause extreme mood swings. Mood swings are very common in people with a bipolar disorder. During a mood swing you will feel your energy level changing going from super exited to depressed in a matter of minutes. Your sleep patterns will also change during a mood swing, you may feel really tired one minute then not be able to sleep the next. During a mood swing your self-esteem will also change
