Public Health Issue: Assignment Instructions
Suppose you live in a new suburban community. It offers all the amenities and benefits of a tight-knit small community, with the benefits of living close to the big city. Some years pass, and several children and adults in the community start developing extensive and similar illnesses. You think this is clearly not a case of genetics, and become suspicious that something must have gone wrong in the development planning and execution of your community. You start researching and investigating possible causes for the illnesses plaguing the community and, upon digging further, find out that the gas company’s practices may be to blame for the calamity. You decide, at that point, to spread the word around your community about your findings so that everyone can unite in a fight for justice. Write a letter of approximately 500 words in length that you intend to have published by your local newspaper addressing your concerns with the public health of the community. Explain what strategies you applied when investigating the problem that helped foster critical thinking and lead you to the root cause of the inexplicable illnesses. Identify approaches the community could take together to arrive at possible solutions for the problem and settle the matter with the gas company. Cite any sources and references according to the Axia Style Guide Handbook.

I am writing this letter to address the people who are in and surrounding my local community. For quite some time now there has been some type of illness within our community that has been affecting the young and the old. This is not a case of genetics I for one have been researching this problem for quite some time and have found out that the gad company practices may be to blame for the calamity. There are many residents who are now becoming very concerned with these findings because it means there is a higher chance of catching the illness as well. If we do not find a resolution to this problem immediately

    Cameron Brain Tumors

The Cameron residents are responding with apprehension and disdain due to the lack of support from the state health officials. It has been difficult for this issue to be investigated, when many of the regulators remain firm that all environmental factors were found to be “above the (acceptable) standard” (KMBC, 2008). Much of the community has voiced their opinions. Take for example, Catherine Frasher the wife whose husband is recovering from surgery to remove his brain tumor. She stated that “it is frustrating at first. When we found out there were four (brain tumor cases) in our neighborhood, that was the turning point when we said, ‘We’re not going to sit down.’” (KMBC, 2008) Consequently, the community is disgruntled with the state’s reaction to the outbreak, and many are moving elsewhere due to the anxiety of the area.…

I am a very happy resident living the American Dream in the Country Place suburban community located in Old Bridge, NJ. We have always considered this neighborhood to be a wonderful & safe place to dwell. We are a good distance off the main road and not located near any big factories that could cause us any harm. It was only until recently that we became concerned for our children and the people of the community. In the last year, there have been many residents who have been suffering from similar yet mysterious symptoms, all living in the Country Place. What’s even more intriguing about how closely related these cases are is the distance - all of them live on the same street behind the ball field. At first I asked myself if it could be a coincidence? Then I asked myself if it could somehow be genetic? I decided to take a deeper look into each case to see if there could be a connection with contamination. In researching the symptoms at each victim’s house, the same symptoms were recorded: severe headaches, dizziness, extreme fatigue, rashes, lumps, severe joint pain, tremors, hair loss and muscle spasms. All of the victims had been seen by doctors and treated with antibiotics while doctors stated that they “weren’t able to diagnose” any of them. As I collected all of the information from investigating each victim, I realized that all of the symptoms seemed to fit the symptoms of exposure to contaminated water. This then sparked my interest in researching the history of our neighborhood plot and what stood there prior to it becoming the Country Place. I found it very intriguing to see that where the baseball field sits now was…
