Public Health Perspectives
The first force was the development of a preventive perspective in mental health services. After World War two psychiatrists began applying public health perspectives which focused on environmental factor on mental disorder. A proposal was made for early intervention for psychological problems and community based services as the primary focus. The public health model was used to address mental health of children.
The second force that influenced community psychology included changes in the system of mental health care. After the war many veterans were traumatized and the Veterans Administration help coordinate funding for mental health research. A lot of influence came from civil rights and feminist movements which psychology. The social movements and several challenges such as unequal between different races, experts and citizens. Another part of the social movement was linking social action at local/national levels.
Psychologist attended this conference because they wanted to link their training an address community issues. Everyone agreed on participant conceptualizer to describe t6he role of a community psychologist. Which is someone who would act as a community change and conduct research. The Conferee also discussed activities with schools and community agencies. This was a turning point for participants and many others became interested.
Fair play equality seeks to make sure fairness in competition for economic, educational or social advancement. Fair play individuals agree statement “The most important American idea is that each individual would have the opportunity to rise as high and not work will take him. Fair share is fairness of the procedure while minimizing extreme inequalities of income. Fair share individuals agree with “For any decent society the first job is to make sure everyone has enough food, shelter and health care.” I agree with fair share because I believe in taking care of everyone not just myself.
