Firefighters, police, teachers, and even trash collectors all play important roles in our world. Without these public service workers, our communities would not be the same as they are now. For the benefit of our communities, public service workers should not have the right to strike.
When workers go on strike they don’t go to work for as long as it takes for them to get what they want. For certain jobs, if they go on strike they can affect people that they would usually help in their job. According to “Why Is It Rare for Public Sector Workers to Go on Strike by Mia Lewis”, “the general public would be in danger if police and firefighters did not report to work.” Not only would people in need of help get affected, so would many children and parents. As it says in ‘New York School Bus Strike: Sign of National Pressure on Unions by Stacy Teicher Khadaroo”, many parents were affected because they had to change their work schedule in order to take their children to school since the buses weren’t being used because of the strike. …show more content…
Many public service workers go on strike in order to try and get a higher pay or better working hours, but many times this doesn’t even happen.
The workers bosses get angry and annoyed and will not give them what they want and that will definitely affect them. According to “What Is a Strike? By Sharon Blumenstein”, “workers are not paid during a strike.” This means that since they are not coming to work they are using up time where they could be getting paid. Also in the same text it says that, “workers participating in a strike run the risk of losing their jobs if their employer decides to hire replacement workers.” Public service workers will have many bad consequences from their job by
striking.
Some people think that public service workers should have the right to strike in order to get what they want from the job, such as safer working conditions and higher wages. On the contrary, the workers already knew the conditions that they were getting themselves into when they got the job. Before starting a job the workers have to sign a contract talking about all the conditions of their job to make sure that they can agree or deal with it. If a public service worker feels that the conditions are unfair or not good enough for them, then they should just go and find a new job that will give them what they want.
Public service workers should not have the right to strike. If they stop working for even just a few minutes in order to strike, our world will be negatively affected. Imagine how different our world would be if public service workers went on strike.
