Fred’s situation involves inflicting pain and mutilations upon puppies in order to regain his gustatory experience of chocolate. He was involved with torture and extraction of cocoamone from puppies for his temporary sense of pleasure which disgusted the public. However, Fred defended his actions through stating that he is not a sadist but simply because his gustatory pleasure was more important than the lives of mere sentient beings. His actions are comparable to how factory-farmed animals are treated and slaughtered for the purpose of human meat consumption. I agree with Alastair Norcross’s claim that there is no morally relevant difference between Fred’s situation and our meat industry. In
