The nurse should have the knowledge to coordinate care with the family and friends of the patient so as to ensure that they provide both physical and emotional support (QSEN, 2017). In addition, the nurse should have the relevant skills to communicate with the patient to identify the needs and preferences of the patient and also alleviate pain and suffering. Finally, a BSN nurse should have the attitude to not only value and honour the needs of the patient but also provide culturally-sensitive care in treating and alleviating pain and suffering from the patient (QSEN, 2017). A BSN nurse should also have the relevant skills to employ comprehensive search with the aim of addressing pertinent clinical questions. A BSN nurse should also have the attitude to recognize public policies in regards to evidence search. The fourth QSEN competence is Quality Improvement to used observed and recorded data and findings to monitor outcomes of the healthcare process and improvement interventions (QSEN, 2017). Thus, nurses should have the knowledge to implement methods for quality improvements as well as possible variations in regards to clinical outcomes in healthcare. Nurses should have the skills to integrate with the relevant search tools as well as ensure patient confidentiality in regards to patient outcomes for quality improvements (QSEN, 2017). Nurses should also have the attitude to value the importance of ethical conduct in regards to quality improvement measures. Finally, the last competence is in ensuring patient safety by healthcare providers.
