What is the purpose of the study? The purpose of the study is to gather information regarding children’s experience when undergoing a colonoscopy. The results of the study will be used to discover methods nurses can use to decrease anxiety levels of children undergoing stressful testing. Results would also provide a greater understanding of children’s needs prior to a colonoscopy and may provide nurses with the basis for future nursing assessments
5. What is the projected significance of the work to nursing? Information gained can be used to guide future nursing intervention, when providing care for children who are anxious about impending stressful procedures.
6. Is the method used to collect data compatible with the purpose of the research? Since the information being studied is from the children’s experiences, using interviews to collect the data was the best method. Also of note, analysis was made using verbatim transcripts.

Can the reader follow the researcher’s thinking? The researcher was clear in his discussion of aims, objectives, design and methods, and it was written in a way that held my interest. He also tied other research studies into his thinking processes.
11. Does the researcher document the research process? The researcher documents background, aim, method, sample, data collection, interviews, data analysis, ethical considerations, setting, and results. He also spends time discussing the implications, conclusion and relevance to clinical practice.
12. Are the findings applicable outside of the study situation? I think the findings could very well apply outside of this study. This study involved children with inflammatory bowel disease undergoing a colonoscopy. This information could be generalized to include children with various illnesses facing various stressful procedures. Even further, I think this information has significance for some adults who are undergoing medical procedures.
13. Are the results meaningful to individuals not involved in the research? I think the results would be meaningful to most individuals undergoing stressful medical procedures as well as the healthcare workers who are caring for
