The objective of this study which was conducted by two professors at Witchita State University, Cathleen A. Lewandowski and Twyla J. Hill was to evaluate whether social and emotional supports influenced the successful completion of drug treatment amongst women. The study was conducted in a non-profit agency which provided comprehensive drug abuse treatment in programs that were specifically designed for women. Although the facility in which the study took place was comprised of various levels of care such as: residential treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, and outpatient treatment, this study focused on women’s completion of the 30-day residential program in particular. I believe this article targeted professionals that work with this population. The article was easy to understand and it used factual information to help substantiate their views.…

In Kristen Weinacker’s essay “Safer? Tastier? More nutritious? The Dubious Merits of Organic Foods”, she makes a claim of fact that organic foods may not be more nutritional than conventionally grown foods. Weinacker does an exceptional job supporting her claim effectively with evidence by using the opinions of several experts, as well as the appeal to our physiological needs. She warrants that by mentioning the use of slick marketing techniques by organic food companies and our belief that organic farmers “bring us back to nature”, we tend to forgive statistical data and start to lean on our common sense. Throughout the essay Weinacker reiterates that most, if not all, of the research data available does not contain the statistical proof necessary to successfully warrant the claim.…

I was curious as to how Samuel Johnson made his artwork look so unique. I think it is interesting how he fire his work and lets the wood and melting ashes make his surfaces have irregular textures. I like how Samuel Johnson’s work is simple shapes with a natural rustic look. I like how he doesn’t try to make his work look perfectly smooth or painted evenly. I love they way he stains them so the stain just drips down the sides and leaves an uneven texture in images 1 and 2. I like the precise detail he has around the tops of images 1 and 2. I think it’s pretty awesome the way he intentionally screws up to give it a rough old aging look. It looks professionally done, yet simple…
