As a good leader, you must possess intel on why you should be leader and why everyone needs to follow you. No matter what everyone’s belief is about one certain person being a bad leader, all are good leaders due to people following them. They wouldn’t be leaders if they didn't have followers supporting them. Here are some important characteristics leaders should have and utilize.

First characteristic I will talk about is determination. Now, determination is a firm of purpose or type of willpower. In this book, Ralph, develops that trait that makes him a remarkable leader. Without his leadership or with anyone’s, they would not survive on the island. Sometimes, Ralph usually is first to step up in a situation. An example of showing this is

You would need to have this type of trait in order to talk or give a speech to their followers on what they are going to do. This can help share information anywhere you’d want it to be. One example of this is when Jack tries to lead his own group as he tells them they will hunt and gather food for a feast.

An obvious trait is to have confidence in yourself. Leaders should have a clear vision, showing empathy and be a strong leader. A quote from this novel shows Ralph having this trait. “Seems to me we ought to have a chief to decide things.” This means that Ralph considers having a leader of people in order for all to survive. There for, every good leader does possess this trait. Focus can be another important characteristic. Sometimes, leadership is making important but unpopular decisions. In minor things, a good leader does not major it. In order to get things done, a leader develops incredible selective ignorance. Another important part to this is to be less distracted than your competition.

Last characteristic is passion. Most leaders in the world right now have this trait. Leaders will always try and push themselves to do something “bigger” and “better.” Some lead this by example because it is their way of life. It should consume you and probably obsess a little over

They now like and respected him” (pg.37). Ralph has such a way with words that the boys trust him enough to believe that his dad really is coming to save them. Ralph is the most dynamic and effective leader in the lord of the flies because he is the primary representative of order, civilization, and productive leadership. Ralph as the leader on the island shows much initiative. He takes a great deal of control and is usually the first to step up in a situation to benefit the safety of everyone on the island. ’You hunters! You can laugh! But I tell you smoke is more important than the pig, however often you kill one. Do all of you see?’ He spread his arms wide and turned to the whole triangle. ‘We’ve got to make smoke up there – or die.’ This quote displays how Ralph is attempting to maintain order and civilized behavior. By being the first to tell them what to do and by showing initiative and by setting goals for the boys to follow, he prepares practical plans that will help the boys get rescued. He is trying to tell them what do to help save them so they will not die. Ralph also shows an immense amount of initiative when most of the other boys are concerned with playing, having fun, and avoiding work. Ralph decides to build huts as a method of survival. There are always people who come out with better qualities to be a leader than others. The strongest people however, usually become the greater influences in which the others decide to follow. However, sometimes the strongest person is not the best choice. In William Golding's novel, “Lord of the Flies” Ralph though not the stronger person, shows better leadership qualities than Jack. Ralph displays these useful qualities as a leader by working towards building a manageable life on the island between them. He knows the boys need order so he creates rules, in order so they survive and can get along on the island. On the other hand, Jack does not treat the boys with respect and equality as Ralph does. Ralph understands that the boys have to be given respect and must be treated equally. This makes Ralph a better leader as he is able to see that he is not superior to any of the other boys. Ralph's wisdom and ability to look to the future also make him a superior leader. Ralph’s main focus is on getting off the island. He insists on keeping the fire burning as a distress signal. Ralph's leadership provides peace and order to the island while Jack's leadership makes chaos.…

The role of a leader is challenging task to take on, especially when you're a young boy. As proven in the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, in order to be an effective leader, you have to have no moral character. Being a leader without moral character leads to more effective ruling, because your followers will obey you more than a ruler with moral character, who tends to be more lenient with their style of ruling. The challenge was taken by originally taken on by Ralph, who with moral character, tried to keep the island in order, and Jack, who without moral character, ruled more efficiently and had more people listen to his orders. Being a leader without moral character, such as Jack, is more effective than being a leader with moral…

Ralph was a logical and influential leader, but lacked the ability to quickly enforce the directions. His logical reasoning process helped in identifying the necessities for life. For example, he valued such necessities as fire and shelter above everything else. These were the necessities that would have led them to a stable and civilized society on the island. However, although Ralph had the right ideas, he was not too quick or efficient in getting them done. In fact, the fire was often let out. Similarly, the shelters were something that seemed there to be done until there was something more exciting, at which point the shelters were left uncompleted. Without direction, the boys on the island often went to do things that were fun. This lack of direction was not at all due to a lack of power. The boys instantly viewed Ralph as a leader with his influential looks and speech. For instance, when Ralph said "fire", the boys went running towards the woods to build a fire. This kind of authority over the boys was exceptionally important for getting things done, unfortunately Ralph did not use his authority to its fullest. As…
