Qualities Of Odysseus
In the journey, the importance of the hero's traits will be measure to Odysseus’s success. Odysseus needs to have the courage,intelligence, and kindness to survive this adventure,he must go to the depths of hell just to return home. Odysseus has been a hero in the story making him a strong willed character with the intelligence and courage to succeed. Odysseus has the courage to face the large Cyclops. Odysseus said “I'll make my own crossing in my own ship,with my own company¨(73). Odysseus wanted to go alone, but his men went also . Odysseus managed to stay calm while the Cyclopes ate many of his men. Then he had hatched the great plan to stab the Cyclops in his eye , making a brave escape, saving most of his men in the process. The smart Odysseus gave the men the perfect chance of escape by stabbing the Cyclops in the eye. Odysseus is a smart, courageous hero. After meeting with the stories that laid the fate of the men with the sirens he told his ¨men plug your oarsmen´s ear with beeswax kneaded soft: none of the rest should hear that song.¨ Really showing his intelligence, knowing that the sirens lure men in with the music. The wisdom and knowledge of Odysseus give him the right path towards finding his home. …show more content…
The protection of Odysseus goes beyond any of his men. “Odysseus rushed to save his men from the enchantress” (pg.920). The care Odysseus showed by scaling a cliff just to save his men and risking his life against the witch was very heroic and would take so much courage. Although the witch had tricked Odysseus into staying for many years in her home. “He could not help consenting”(pg 114). Odysseus showed mercy and kindness towards his own capture.
