As CEO of Gunn’s Medical center I would use all the data collected to implement a plan to have continuous improvement in patient satisfaction. The necessity for quality and safety improvement initiatives permeates health care (Hughes, 2008). Quality health care is defined as “the degree to which health services for individuals and populations increase the likelihood of desired health outcomes and are consistent with current professional knowledge. Patient satisfaction is not a clearly defined concept, although it is identified as an important quality outcome indicator to measure success of the services delivery system(Al-Abri, & Al-Balushi, 2014). Furthermore, it is agreed that a patient satisfaction questionnaire is considered to be a significant quality improvement tool; therefore, detailed description of the different questionnaires that have been used to assess patient satisfaction surveys will be discussed extensively in a separate study. Finally, this review of various elements of patient satisfaction ranging from its measurement, predictors for improving overall patient satisfaction and impact of collecting patient information to build up strategic quality improvement plans and initiatives has shed light on the magnitude of the subject. It thus provides the opportunity for organization managers and policy makers to yield a better understanding of patient views and perceptions, and the extent of their involvement in improving the quality of care and services (Al-Abri, & Al-Balushi, 2014).     Healthcare has become a consumer driven industry with patient satisfaction equating to good customer service. Effective communication has been shown to be a key factor in both patient outcomes and satisfaction. Additionally, patient satisfaction has become a tool used by insurers to evaluate medical facilities and may impact reimbursement to hospitals for patient care. In this paper, I will discuss the issue of ineffective communication in the waiting area of the surgical services department at Mount Carmel East Hospital. The impact of ineffective communication effects patients and members of the perioperative team. Results of patient surveys consistently showed a decrease in overall patient satisfaction with areas of communication scoring the lowest across the continuum. Substandard scores necessitated a further look at the process of communication and a root cause analysis was used to evaluate the scope of the issue. The current communication process was then observed and compared to best practice models. A summary of this data, included in this report, was used to develop possible solutions to improve communication as part of a continuing quality improvement process.     External quality indicators are used by government agencies, third party payers and consumers to define a quality hospital stay (Kelly, 2011). The external indicators relevant to consumers for TWH include; overall patient satisfaction with hospital stay, infection rates for surgeries and patient satisfaction with nursing care.
