Thomas Jefferson was one of the first to question the term of race, and could there a possibility that only certain types of people could be considered a man and therefore equal. Due to this fascination, a majority of individuals are separated in categories based mostly on race and ethnicity. For example, Individuals with dark skin were often categorized as inferior because people believe that there was something biologically different that separated them as savages. Time is also a factor, as the type of inequality among races changes over time. As stated in the race- the power of illusion episode two, “race is an idea that evolves over time…That it is constructed by a society to further certain political and economic goals”. This would lead to some discrimination of race and class among the population. As stated, “instead of waiting to execute degenerate offspring for crime or to let them starve for their imbecility, society can prevent those who are manifestly unfit from continuing their kind” (Module, 4). There have been insistences where eugenic would also be used in type of discrimination. Where different racial groups are separated and confined to their own kind, thus continuing the genetic material. Not only will certain genetic material be passed down, but it can also be used to stop racial group from continuing the unwanted genetics as well. In the example in the module, we see the eugenics during 1929-1974 was used to sterilize people who were poor, sick and mentally challenged. What eugenics did was not only promote “superior” traits could be passed down, but also have “lesser” or unwanted traits would eventually die
