Racial Discrimination In Society Today
Discrimination is still among our world today, and stays a constant issue. Many people would argue this accusation, and try to believe that the world today is better than it was years ago, but the fact is that it is still the same. Discrimination is not just among races or ethnic groups, it is among different genders, religions, and marriage partners. Today people argue about discrimination all of the time. Why is it still among us? What can be done? Why don’t we just let it be? But, in fact, none of these questions are ever solved and might never be answered because of the contrasting beliefs of society. Racial discrimination affects people of all races and has been around for a very long time. The most common examples of this type of discrimination would be the slave trade era, and today’s recent issues of police brutality toward black people. Another part of discrimination that has been around for along time and is still around is sexual discrimination. Sexism is a modern social issue affecting the lives of everyone in today’s society. It is the year 2015 and even though the 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote all the way back in 1920, things still are not equal in both the work force and everyday life. Discrimination, both racial and sexual, exist and are prominent themes in the plots of Crash, A&P, and Girl. Through the many characters in the movie Crash, racial discrimination was displayed. One example of racial discrimination was the scene with Officer Hansen, who is white, and Peter, who is black. Officer Hansen picked up Peter as he was hitchhiking on the side of the road. Although the young officer is constantly trying to help out and stick up for minorities, he did this almost as if he was trying to just prove to himself
