If care providers don’t understand the importance of promoting anti-discriminatory practice, they are more likely to not work in an anti discriminatory practice. Care providers should be aware of the active promotion of anti discriminatory practice in order for the service users of health and social care to get the best of the services. If care providers fail to work in an anti discriminatory practice, service users will be not treated fairly and their choices wouldn’t be respected or taken into account, so therefore it is very important for health and social care professionals to work in an anti discriminatory practice. If the care settings fail to promote an anti discriminatory practice, service users will be…
Both of your topics seem very interesting. If you chose reverse racism to talk about, I think you can bring up very interesting points in your project to explain them to your readers such as does the reverse racism really exist? Does that mean that people who used to that privilege can learn from losing it, and becoming equal to those who lacked it before? To explore this subject, you should explain what first the term reverse racism means. Many people around the world have had several bad experiences with racist so giving extra details and more explanation would help the readers grasp the significant of the topic.…
In today’s society in America we still have and witness racism. Today we expect that our schools create an equal outcome for all its students. Whether they live a "normal" lives or their homes are severely disadvantaged by family and community poverty. But the children who come from severely disadvantaged families and are suffering go to school with sometimes unqualified or inexperienced…
In this criteria I am going to be explaining the potential effects of discriminatory practice on those who use the health and social care service. There are many outcomes of discrimination, these are marginalisation, disempowerment, low self-esteem and self identity- restricted opportunities, negative behaviours such as aggression or criminality. I will be defining each effect and relating it to a health and social care setting.…
Throughout the mid-20th Century, racism of African Americas was a huge concern in the United States, to the population of African- Americans. The speeches of Martin Luther had an impact as it illustrates the racist problems of the time. Also to provoke the audience into feeling compassion and providing hope to the miserable…
Racism against minorities represents injustice within our community and country which can ignite significant social impacts such as loss in job and college opportunities.…
The African American community was directly impacted from the riot by showing the country an anger and mindset of frustration through their eyes. The police were directly impacted due to the clear need for culture change in the department. Furthermore, the police put forth steps to diversify and bring officers closer to the communities that they swore to protect. The entire country was impacted by being shown the true underbelly and underlying issues of racism that were shown to be extremely…
Racism in America has become more present for several reasons. Some people blame Barack Obama. When he had gotten elected, it was a signal to a new era it seemed. People thought that it would be so much better but in reality, it was a major set back. There has been a complete change in our societies in my opinion. When Barack Obama had become elected, threats against him has increased by 400%…
In the past decade, racism has changed along with how society has changed. For example, in today’s society, it is rare to see a store, restaurant or anyone who just will not serve anyone because they are black; however, it can still happen. In society today, world racism is taken and given in a different way. When the Internet came into play during the 21st century and social media following not far after, the characteristics of racism changed. Author Emily Fekete writes in her article Race and (Online) Sites Consumption, “Geographers have noted the increasing role of the Internet and social media in everyday life (Zook and Graham 2007; Elwood 2011; Kitchin and Dodge 2011; Stephens 2013)”. Not only has social media increased, but in doing this,…
Rachel, I wholeheartedly appreciate the sentiment and ideas expressed in your post. They were well thought out and prompted me to question the whitewashed history we are taught in America. Not only does your creation of this post shed light on the unjust and poor treatment of the (forced) black women who fought for this country, but has pushed me to question just how many minorities went through the war (and the rest of history).…
There are many different definitions of racism, which is a system of unequal power and privilege by which one racial group dominates others; David Wellman (1977) defined it as a system of advantage based on race. In the U.S. racism is a product of white racial prejudice and discrimination, reinforced intentionally and unintentionally to the advantage of whites and the disadvantage of color (Hilliard 1992). In America, white people are represented as the dominant group. Most of these are made implicitly or indirectly. For example in textbooks and in media emphasize heroes role models…
Racism and ethnic discrimination in the United States has been a major issue since the colonial era and the slave era. Legally sanctioned racism sanctioned privileges and rights for white people not granted to Native Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, and Latin Americans. European Americans (particularly Anglo Americans) were privileged by law in matters of literacy, immigration, voting rights, citizenship, land acquisition, and criminal procedure over periods of time extending from the 17th century to the 1960s. Many non-Protestant European immigrant groups, particularly Jews, Irish people, Poles and Italians among others, suffered xenophobic exclusion and other forms of discrimination in American society.…
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” Martin Luther. Martin Luther speaks for the black community when he says this, but I think that this quote can represent more. It can represent racism, inequality, wage gap, and much more. There are many problems in America today, and they all seem to do with hate. Although the United States is known for being a top tier country, there are a lot of problems within the country that could tear the nation apart.…
“No one is born hating another because of the colour of his skin or his background or his religion. People learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” -Nelson Mandela. African Americans deserve to have the same rights and levels of respect as every other American.…
The definition of racism is a belief that a race is “superior” over all other races. Since the dawn of time, racism has been present amongst man. When a group believes that they possess diverse traits others do not, they believe that makes them “superior”. The history of man is riddled with examples of races being persecuted because they were “substandard”. Racism must stop in order for society to move forward. Everyone must be treated equally and fairly, but how we accomplish this? The first step to stopping racism is to abolish stereotypes. When one sees another, he/she should be treated as an individual, not matter what their ethnicity is. There should be no negative connotation associated with someone’s race. Just because people have the same colour skin or beliefs does not mean they are all exactly the same. And just because you have different coloured skin and beliefs from another does that make you or the other “superior”. When you generalize people, you are classifying a group as the same, destroying any individuality. Another way to stop racism is to make religious holidays less bias. Why do the Christian holidays of Christmas and Easter require a day off but Eid and Diwali do not? Eid and Diwali are the most important holidays in the Muslim, Hindu and Sikh calendar, yet they do not warrant a day off. Students should not fall behind their studies just because they are celebrating their religion’s biggest holidays. It is extremely unfair that someone not of Christian faith must take a vacation day off work or fall behind in school in order to commemorate their religious holidays. People of any religion should be excused for their major holidays. In conclusion, to stop racism, we must first stop it internally. Hopefully, if we all take the steps to stop racism as one, we can win. In order to do this, we must be willing to make changes and adjustments to they way we think and do things. We should not see race or skin colour when…
