Now looking at the past few years in football in Europe, racism has not gotten any better. Mario Balotelli is a very well known player that symbolizes the new generation of non-white Italian players. (Doidge, M) He was born to Ghanaian parents in Sicily and then moved to Brescia on the other side of the country. (Doidge, M) At the age of two, Mario developed a life-threatening intestinal illness (Doidge, M). His parents were not able to pay for his health care and was fostered by the Balotellli’s(Doidge, M). In Italy, Mario could not acquire Italian citizenship until his 18th birthday (Doidge, M).
