Title and Topic Introduction
I have chosen to research discrimination within football in Wales compared to Italy. I chose to compare Wales to Italy because I know of events in Italy which show discrimination and it has quite a history within Italy. The fact of the matter is Italian football hasn’t matured with the other countries of Europe, as many fans still discriminate against players from many different backgrounds.
I intend to collect key research points then annotate them. After that I will type up a draft questionnaire and then improve on it, then type up my investigation including my research. I will then commence with making improvements to my investigation and present my final version. After that I will complete and evaluation and an appendix before handing in my entire investigation.
Under my chosen topic of discrimination I can focus in on the following topics:
Racism
Sexism
Nationality
Religion
Disability
Refugees
Over the course of investigating my chosen topic I will come across many heated discussions and I will ultimately answer the question how does discrimination in football in Wales compare to Italy. My conclusion will sum up everything I have learnt and researched along with answering the question I have set myself.
Investigation Body
Racism:
Racism is clearly a problem in football with many players complaining about racist remarks coming from the opposition’s players; the opposition’s coaching staff and sometimes referees. In Wales players have recently complained about racism and they’re from the amateur leagues, which shows how

It is expected that within our research task we answer/ create findings on a certain topic or question. We need to be interested in the topic in order for it to be a successful and fully finished research task. We are to use primary and secondary research methodologies and are to reference any work/ information that is not our own. For primary research we can use methodologies such as surveys, interviews and observations, and for our secondary research methods we can use literature review, news programmes, statistics etc. For most of this assessment we need to complete it in our own time, but we are also given much class time to formulate questions, hand in drafts, ask questions and work on our research plans individually.…

However, on a deeper level, Collins makes it clear that football is anything but fair. One example, she uses is the fact that while fair play within gender categories is expected the categories themselves are not necessarily fair. While men and women alike play soccer professionally in the FIFA World Cup only men can compete. Unfortunately, this leads to the belief that “the kind of football that counts for the FIFA and fans” is only played by…

This essay will have three sections. The first section will briefly outline the concepts made by Clarke and Critcher (1995) of ‘material and cultural ' (Clarke, J. and Critcher, C. ‘Leisure and Inequality ' in C. Critcher et.al.,1995, Sociology of Leisure: A Reader. London: E+FN Spon, p247) constraints to leisure. The concepts shall be detailed, and briefly explained and elaborated. The second section will illustrate these concepts by relating them to a article by Green, E., Hebron, S. and Woodwood, D (1990). This article recognises that gender is a key dimension in both the public and private spheres of leisure. This shall be further supplemented with other sources that also highlight gender differences, and supports Clarke and Critcher 's (1995) concepts. The final section will reflect upon factors that have enabled or constrained my own leisure experiences.…

Peter Figueroa, a sociologist, developed a framework to analyse racism within society, particularly to look at how equity and access to society’s resources are affected by a person’s race. This framework can also be applied to other aspects of sociology, including equity and access in sport. Figueroa’s framework explored equity and access through five levels in society:…

It may be hard to tell by my name, but I am from Italian descent and have a hard time relating to my heritage. I have never had a problem with this fact until this assignment, and now I truly want to find out more about the culture and heritage that I come from. After doing some research, it is plain to me that even Italian Americans face discrimination and prejudice. This is not only true in this day and time, but history also shows that Italian immigrants to this country were met with quite a large amount of discriminatory actions.…
