received from the police. And he brings up the thought that these types of actions have been going on for the last couple hundred years, and not much has been done to stop the violence against those of color. Without any action against these occurrences, then nothing will ever get resolved (“Obama Speaks to Racial Tensions at Celebration of African-American History Museum”).Racism doesn’t just take place in the United States though, it is seen all over the globe. In the video on racism in Brazil, the video said that blacks make up 84% of the population a city in Brazil, but they have never had a colored governor. Instead most of the population of colored individuals make up the slums.
2 In Brazil, blacks only make up 2.2% of the student population in universities. If they try to get a degree of a higher caliber, they will not be taken seriously because of where they come from and how they are perceived. Without any opportunity to better themselves and try to move up in society, they will stay in the same shape of poverty that they always have been in (“Race and Racism in Latin America:Brazil”). 3 In the video, “A White Audience is Left Speechless by a Brilliant Question About Race” the speaker asks the audience (all white people) if they would like to be treated the way that blacks are in society. If they did then they would stand up, but no one did. She asked if maybe the audience didn’t understand the question, so she asked it again but still no one stood up. This shows that everyone knew how people of color were being treated and knew that they didn’t want it to happen to them, but still they don’t do anything to help out with the problem(“A White Audience is Left Speechless Racism in America”). It can’t happen in a day, but with action by all there can be steps taken towards putting an end to
racism.
