Finances do hurt when you are trying to survive on minimum wage. One student that graduated from “Boston University” had to work for something she did not major in, which lead her to minimum wage. On “Empowered Dollar”, she states, “Debating my life down to every last dollar. It was one of the lowest moments of my adult life, struggling to survive on minimum wage. I felt helpless, at the mercy of the economy while being denied a basic right to survival”. Minimum wage increase would help out those who do not have much of the enthusiasm or mind for school, it would be more of a help to those who rather work. People should not have to worry about what they need to get or about “what is more important” to save their money, they should get paid enough to help pay off things and still have a little more on the side for themselves. Higher rank people probably wonder about other people getting paid minimum wage and how do they do it. One other student from “Boston University” says on “Empowered Dollar”, “Suffocating, desperate, drowning, hopeless”, “I did what any person on minimum wage has to do. I began with a budget to see where my money was going and where I could be saving”. More than half the teenagers now and days just have their minds put into money to either afford what they want or help out their parents. Jill Padgett, community school coordinator, from “The Des Moines Register”, states, “We have students who are working to support themselves, students who are working to support their families, and then we have students who are just looking for experience,”. These are the teenagers who see the benefit of a task that needs to be implied, they see how important it is to get paid more than the minimum wage in order to be able to help out and still have money. The “Des Moines” says, “The convenience store chain this year raised its starting pay for part-time clerks to $10 per hour. Bonuses kick in after six months. Which means that even a noteable higher minimum wage would have little effect. Mercer from “Des Moines” said, “I assisted 200 to 250 students this spring, and about 50 percent were trying to pay for daily necessities.
Probably about half of those kids needed it for living purposes or trying to help with their family situation." What Mercer is getting at is that there are many teenagers out there who are really willing to pay as long as the pay is decent so that they can help out their parents. Raising the minimum wage up to $15.00 would keep these teenagers busy getting more than enough
