Ram Buddies Research Paper
Beginning in January, I have been taking volleyball lessons. At school, there is a program called Ram Buddies that I participate in. Ram Buddies is where an eighth grade student supports another eight grade student with special needs. In the end of January, the whole eighth grade was given a course selection booklet. I started thinking about my courses for high school.
I attend school at the Spring-Ford 8th Grade Center. Thursday January 20th we were given the book for our High School course selections. In ninth grade I will take six majors instead of five majors and two minors. The six majors will be Academic English, Family Consumer Science, Honors Earth Science, Geometry, History, and Spanish II. I think I will enjoy Family Consumer

I signed up for volleyball. I have only had two practices. Hitherto, I acquired the skills of passing the ball, serve overhand, and set the ball. I failed to attend the first practice. As a result, I do not know how to properly serve underhand. Practice is every Friday night from six “o” clock to six forty-five at Anderson Farm Park. Moreover drills, we play games. One game I relish is where a person serves the ball to the other side of the net and tries to hit someone. If they are not successful, they have to sit were the ball landed. If they do strike someone, they earn a point. Volleyball is an enjoyable experience. In school, I am part of Ram Buddies. Ram Buddies is a program where students can assist other special needs students with homework and studying. In addition, they can assist with non-learning items such as crafts and play games. A Ram Buddy can sign up for time in homeroom. Additionally, students can sign up for field trips. A field trip takes place during school. In the past, I have gone to the mall, the YMCA, and Zoe’s Kitchen. A Student is assigned a special needs child to aid. On the school trips, the children learn how to communicate with strangers and obtain skills at the checkout. Ram Buddies is an excellent program to make friends and support students in

College is much different from my high school in so many ways. In my high school we was always on the same routine. We had four periods a day and first period started at 7:45 and we was on a block schedule meaning our classes was an hour and thirty minutes long. We had the same classes everyday so more learning during the day and less homework. Immediately after school we had football practice four days a week and played on Fridays. High school Is a good preparation for college, even though while in high school you will never expect what happens in college. In high school your parents were more involved in what go on in your daily life, whether you get in trouble in class or you get sick at lunch.…

Former member Shareef Awadallah (8th grade), reflected on his time as a Bulldog Buddy. “My favorite part was playing games, watching movies, and having parties. I also really liked just making friends with all the kids.” He continues, “I learned that even though we may look, talk, or learn differently, we’re all the same on the inside.” Shareef is one of the many students who can agree that Bulldog Buddies is more than just a group that meets once a week, but they have became rather a family. Mrs. Gostlin agrees, “I think being in the Bulldog Buddies program helps all the students to become more well rounded. The students are fostering respect, dignity, and advocacy for their peers with disabilities.” Her advice for any school wanting to try a group like this is to go for it! She says that her students truly love seeing all their friends. Our culture at Green Middle School is to be accepting and kind to everyone. It is our job to include everyone, regardless of our physical or learning differences, and Bulldog Buddies exemplifies…

Peer Assistance Leadership (PALs) is a program where students that are involved in this club get to partner up with a disabled student. They get to know each other, they learn to interact with one another, and they grow together. This is a great extracurricular that should be a part of every school in the U.S. but it is not. Many people do not understand the importance of allowing disabled students interact with regular students. This program is really "effective and efficient" that it is a great opportunity that shouldn’t be pass up. It is available "in over 1000 elementary, middle and high schools in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Washington."…

Volleyball had always been a game that I was passionate about, during the season and in the moment I really believed my life revolved around it and I never thought that it would ever actually come to an end, and then it did. I had a roller coaster of emotions through out that season, disappointed when we lost, ecstatic when we won, and sometimes a little angry when things didn’t go well; but my only feeling after that last game of my high school career was heart broken. I was broken because I was never going to be able to lace up my shoes and play another completive volleyball game in my life. This was a huge deal for me because I was a one sport athlete, meaning that I would never go out and play sports at a high level of competiveness again. I believe that sports are very important and that teach many valuable skills that you cannot learn from many other places. I was also broken because through out my many years of volleyball I’ve made so many new friends that I have now made a bond with that cannot be broken; they are some of my closest friends, we still enjoy getting together and hanging out every now and then, and I still talk to many of them…

I have been part of Friendship Circle since the seventh grade. I have had the privilege of working with three amazing families within the past five years. I was put with both the children with special needs and their siblings. Even after I was switched into a different family I still keep in contact with the kids I met through Friendship Circle. The Gottesman Sunday Smiles Program is a hebrew school for kids with special needs that go to public school because they don’t have the programs in Yeshivot they need to be able to learn. I have been working for this program since the ninth grade. This school consists of three classrooms. Currently we have students from seven to twenty eight. The three classrooms are not divided by age but rather the mental state of the student. I also for the past couple of years have joined Yachad shabbatones when they were in West…

If I had to pick one extracurricular activity to pursue in college, I would definitely choose club volleyball. Ever since I started playing volleyball in the 7th grade, I have been hooked. From that point on, the sport has become an invaluable part of me that has helped me grow into the person I am today. Since I joined volleyball two years after most of my peers, I was put on the “B-team.” I was determined to work as hard as I could to be placed on an advanced high school team. Thankfully, my hard work earned me a spot on a state-winning varsity roster as a freshman. We went on to win two state championships, and I personally received an All-West Region award. In this way, volleyball taught me that teamwork, dedication, and perseverance…
