Extracurricular Activity
If I had to pick one extracurricular activity to pursue in college, I would definitely choose club volleyball. Ever since I started playing volleyball in the 7th grade, I have been hooked. From that point on, the sport has become an invaluable part of me that has helped me grow into the person I am today. Since I joined volleyball two years after most of my peers, I was put on the “B-team.” I was determined to work as hard as I could to be placed on an advanced high school team. Thankfully, my hard work earned me a spot on a state-winning varsity roster as a freshman. We went on to win two state championships, and I personally received an All-West Region award. In this way, volleyball taught me that teamwork, dedication, and perseverance

In middle school and high school I played basketball and ran in track. I never played volleyball competitively, until my sophomore year of high school, but before then I played volleyball on the beach with my sister. Unfortunately, one day, the University of Houston's volleyball ball coach saw me playing and was beyond amazed. From that day forward, I was the first ever to get a female sports scholarship, full…

I never decided to be a part of a team because I knew I wasn’t athletic and I was very clumsy considering the number of times I've fallen when I ran in my physical education classes. As for clubs and organization, I started to be a part of the AVID program in seventh grade through senior year of high school. Joining the AVID program was my idea because I wanted to gain a better understanding of college. Since my parents never attended, they didn’t know the process of enrolling in college and other factors. The reason I stayed in AVID for so long wasn't just because of the field trips to colleges but also becoming a part of a family with my classmates and getting to know everyone, even more, every year.…

Athletics has been an integral component of my entire life. While never being the most athletic or skilled, baseball was my passion growing up. The sport served as a garden for me to grow as a person, learn invaluable lessons, and gain friendships that will last a lifetime. After years of playing year-round, I was blessed to have the option of playing at a couple Small Division II schools or pursue a more academically rigorous degree at UVa. Ultimately, I chose the latter and it has been at the University of Virginia where CrossFit transformed from a supplementary regimen to my passion.…

As a student-athlete itself, I have a pretty unique high school experience. Over the past 4 years, I have learned how to manage my time better, how to get things done in a timely fashion, as well as how to efficiently multi-task. However, to even further my unique high school experience, I am also a dedicated member of the marching band (and I hold the title of Trombone section leader), concert band, jazz band, concert choir, and spring musical, all while also being dedicated to field hockey. Although these choices stressed me out to no end due to multiple practices, competitions, and games being scheduled all at the same time, I would not have given up this experience for anything. It helped me to grow as a student, as an athlete, as a musician, and most importantly, as a person.…

The extracurricular activity that had an influential impact on the plans for my future was the Future Farmers of America. While in this organization, I have received multiple experiences in operating in the greenhouse, commuting to a fish farm, memorizing facts about the organization. This organization started by giving me the opportunity to begin experiencing stuff outside of the normal classroom. This organization taught me to stand up for myself and it started teaching me that I can do anything I set my mind to, such as winning science fair to advance to the National Convention in Kentucky. In this organization that anything is possible if you put the effort into making it happen. I learned that the people help make the organization, but…

In high school, the only sport-like activity I participated in was color guard in the marching band, mostly because it consumed all of my time. Joining the future business leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, becoming a youth leader at Christ Church, as well as many other volunteering activities helped me enrich my community, and make an impact in the world around me. Along with these organizations, I have played several sports in high school, in my junior and senior years I settled on my two favorite sports, track and field, and volleyball. Within these sports I have made friendships with my teammates I will never forget, and learned important lessons in humbleness when winning, and cohere with my friends when losing. By being a member of any sports teams at my high school, I regularly attended many of my school’s events, giving me the opportunity to develop relationships, and gain a tremendous sense of pride in my school. I am looking forward to bringing this same sense of pride to my college, and making many new friendships along the way. I learned over the course of my education to this point, that when I became more involved with these activities, my performance in the classroom increased alongside my…

From a young age we’re asked what we want to be when we grow up, never how we expect to become when we grow up. I was well aware of what I wanted to become, but not sure how to get there until I started high school when my counselor explained to me the importance of having a full portfolio with a wide range of extracurricular activities. Then it became clear to me, I needed extracurricular activities to become who I wished to be. Throughout my high school career I’ve participated in several extracurricular actives such as math club, soccer and UIL One Act. In the future, I want to participate in these activities or anything similar to those I participated in high school.…
