ReEmergence of two party system In the period of time from 18201840, states rights and economic issues contributed the the reemergence of the two party system because of major political personalities. These two topics closely helped contribute to the political struggle between the Tories and the Whigs. These political separations were due to Jackson denying of the rechartering of the Bank of the United States, Tariff disgrace, and the devastating effects of the Panic of 1837 had on the economy. Jackson’s denial of the
Maysville Road Bill and South Carolina’s elimination of the Tariff of Abominations had a huge effect on the separation of Political support as they tried to involve states rights. All of these factors were key in longer existence of the Two Party system in America.
The economic issues the nation faced during this time period played a major role in dividing political opinion all through the nation. When congress passed the protective
Tariff of 1828, the separation between the northern manufacturers and the southern planters became more relevant. The southerners were very angry as to what they perceived to be an unreasonable tax, so they began to show that they supported the
National Republicans( later would be whigs). Also; the Political War over the Bank of
The United States divided the opinions even farther. When Jackson denied the
“antiwestern” charter, it finally set the western frontiersmen against the Eastern businessmen, only because the westerners were in debt to a lot of the eastern tax collectors. With the Federal bank being gone, it took a very large amount of power away

The author asserts that the problem with American government is not the party but is instead the system of voting that creates the parties. The author begins by first stating the main problem with the two party system mainly the lack of choice it provides for the public. The author then compares our system with its plurality rules with the European parliamentary system of proportional representation. The author also explains that in some areas one party dominates elections in that area so the public has no way of really affecting government policy because they are only presented with one choice. The author points to the old solid south, which was solidly controlled by democrats, as an example. The author believes our two party system forces voters to be pick the lesser of two evils. He supports this claim by pointing to the fact that the two parties can only ever present two sides of an issue and this leaves the rest of the possible choices out of the picture.…

The Panic of 1837 was an economic depression resulting from Andrew Jackson's economic policies, which included the refusal to renew the charter for the Second Bank of the United States. Another policy was the Coinage Act by Jackson, which required payment for public lands to be in gold and silver. The actions of Andrew Jackson resulted in the accusation of Martin Van Buren, Jackson's successor, for causing the Panic of 1837. Van Buren's refusal to involve the government in the economy was said to have stimulated the damages. Bank irresponsibility, both in causing rampant speculation and by introducing paper money inflation was also a root of the problem. This was caused by banks issuing paper money they couldn't redeem in gold or silver coin; these notes then lost value over time, so that more were needed to buy the same thing as had been bought before for less.…

Document B: In the document, Jackson argues that the bank of the United States had to close down because only the wealthy were benefitting from it. The reason for that is that in 1832, Congress passed a bill to recharter the Bank of the United States, and that resulted into a campaign issue. Foreign people held over a fourth of the stocks, and the rest…

Documents B and C discuss Jackson’s veto of the Bank of the US, and Webster’s response to it. Once Jackson issued the veto, he created “pet banks,” or state banks. Jackson then issued the Specie Circular, which required payment for purchases of public lands in gold or silver. The circular attempted to reduce the amount of paper money in circulation. The result partly contributed to the economic crisis of the time- the Panic of 1837, and Congress repealed the circular in 1838. Document H supports the rights of the community over monopolies, which incorporates the equality of economic opportunity. Concerning the Charles River Bridge dilemma, the decision made by Taney supported the rights of the community against monopolies, which Jacksonian Democrats supported in their efforts to maintain equal economic opportunity. Labor movements began to rise. George Evans wanted equal opportunity for the working class, as shown in Document A. The working class will suffer from decisions made by the government, and after time and time again of being abused, working class men want to reform the government and protect their right to equal economic opportunity. Under the Jackson administration, the working class was protected and given equal opportunity.…

Jackson and his followers viciously opposed the bank, vilifying it any chance they could get, as they saw it as a “moneyed aristocracy”; in addition, Jackson warned of the power that money had to corrupt the government and its officials. “This wretched business has introduced a thousand ways of robbing honest labourers of [their] earnings to make knaves rich, powerful, and dangerous.” Jacksonian Democrats opposition to the bank came mainly from it’s western voters, who saw the bank as restriction of speculation, and the “evil force” that foreclosed many western farms, thinking that only New Englanders benefitted from it. One issue that the Jacksonian Democrats didn’t have a defined view on, was slavery. While it had some abolitionists from it’s New England voters, it also had a…
