My Reading Timeline
To Start off, I will be telling you a little bit of my background in reading and how I started to read. For as long as I can remember I remember my parents would read children books to me right before bedtime. It was the books that every kid loves being read to like Dr. Suess and Thomas the tank engine. My favorite books however where the books where there was big pictures because kids loves seeing the animation. I had a book where on each page you would press something on the page and the book would talk, which was really neat. I cannot remember at what age but maybe when I got into grade 4 or so, that is when my teachers started showing us how to read. We would read easy books but books with great humour, I really wish I knew what the books we read where but its been just a long time. I can just remember the joy I had as I …show more content…
was able to start reading on my own. I would tell my mom to buy me more books just because there was such a joy of being to read on my own. When ever I was in the car I would read signs as we were passing down the road.
By the time I got into middle school reading was a breeze, it was basically at that time something that I would just do on a daily basis without really even knowing it.
Plus I soon found out all about the different types of books out there from romance all the way to fantasy. I remember our teachers would sometimes let us choose our own books to read, and one of my favorites was goosebumps. There was just something about those books that were very entertaining to read. The goosebumps novels pretty much focus on mysteries plus as you read the book there is a section in there to see how the end will play out and there is like 2 or 3 different ending that you can choose from depending on your mood, or you can just see how all 3 will end. I also got to say before I forget I was also into the harry potter novels. I think the harry potter novels are like 200-300 pages maybe more? But they were so good to read and then the movies for them came out. But the books are always so much better than the movies, most of the time in the movies they leave out all the good details that are in the
books.
Then high school came and I read all the books that high school kids read like huckleberry finn and one flew over the cuckoo’s nest. I really did not enjoy reading those books who really knows why, because they just did not keep my attention and I thought they were sort of boring.I really did not read too many books in high school besides the ones we were supposed to read, I did enjoy one particular book called lord of the flies. It was about a couple of british boys stranded on a deserted island trying to get off it. I really enjoyed it since I am a fan of those reality tv shows like survivor, so that got me really into the book where I actually read it a couple times since it was so good. Once I got into college, the only books that I actually read were my college books. At the time I was not taking any reading courses so I really was not reading any books. Plus once I got out of high school reading for me just sort of declined. I guess you could say I really don’t have a desire to read books besides the occasional magazine or instruction manual. But when there is a good movie out that I saw and liked I may actually pick up the book to read it, just because books are so much better than the movies as they have more details in them.
To sum it all up, Being able to read for such a long time has been a great experience. I know that there are some people in this world that cannot read but I don’t know how they do it? Like how would you get around a new city if you cannot read a map? Or even if you’re out eating dinner how can you read the menu? To me it seems like I would have a tough time if I was not able to read. Plus the more that you read the smarter you get since you are learning more vocabulary and words. To me reading has essentially became an everyday thing. Let me give you an example, when I drive to school in the morning I need to read the signs otherwise I would get lost, then when I go to eat lets say at mcdonalds I read the menu on what I want to eat. So reading for me and I would say most everyone else is just a part of daily life.
