In the play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet we see some bad decisions that both Romeo and Juliet take but we are trying to figure about who is the most realistic and and why. Throughout Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Juliet is characterized as being practical about both the present and the future, but selfish in her decisions and choices making her a realistic character to today's audience.
We see that Juliet shows how she acts about the idea of getting married to Romeo; she thinks of her future. Eric Johnson explains the following quote “I will not fail: 'tis twenty years till then; I have forgot why I did call thee back.”(Johnson 2003) this quote shows that Juliet is thinking about the future, but it does …show more content…
When he leaves a letter to his dad explaining about his death and the reason why he did this. Eric Johnson explains the following quote “Give me that mattock and the wrenching iron; Hold, take this letter; early in the morning…” (Johnson 2003) this is not a very realistic or ideal thing to do. So decides to kill himself and because of this action he is affecting and not thinking about his family. He did leave the note but is not thinking the hole his death will leave in his father and in his family. He is not aware of his mother's death and how his death will affect his dad because he is going to be alone and for this reason Romeo is not being realistic and very selfish. Going back to Juliet she also does not have very bright ideas like the one that she decides that she rather kill herself rather than to marry Count Paris which is a little over exaggeration,William Shakespeare writes in the play “O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris; From off the battlements of yonder tower;Or walk in thievish ways, or bid me lurk...” (Shakespeare) by taking thing fast this is not consider a realistic idea because death is not a good choice. and once again they are being selfish and not thinking about
