The therapy focuses personal responsibility for our choices and the resulting outcomes (study.com). The client will be directed to choose a behavior forcing them to reject the concept of unconscious forces causing a problem. Reality Therapy uses Choice theory to portray the goals of what is. The therapy is for issues happening now and not circumstances in the past. The therapeutic process is used to focus on things that can be changed and not on things that cannot be. All we do is behave. As famously said by Master Yoda, from the movie Star Wars, “Do or do not, there is no try.” This means make a choice or do not make a choice. There are no second chances to the behavior that is chosen. What behavior one chooses will affect what happens next, as an outcome of that choice. Trying is not an outcome of our actions. Choice Theory includes a few pictures of what a “quality world,” looks like and each world is unique. A quality would gives a vision of who we are and what is in front of us. For each individual the world should meet one or more of our Basic Human Needs. Each person should be changing and changeable. Quality world pictures depict present circumstances and dreams for the future. Quality world pictures may reflect things we presently possess or long for in the future; other pictures may indicate what we have relinquished hope of manifesting
