Reasons Against Gun Control
Gun Control is becoming an extremely popular topic especially with elections coming up. Some people are voting for certain candidates solely based on their views involving gun control. I personally am against gun control simply because i believe it will cause more harm than good however, i do believe that we need to have more strict requirements for people who want to purchase firearms. There needs to be more strict requirements for people who want to purchase firearms concerning the security of the weapons such as a form that states that the person wants to purchase a certain firearm owns a safe that the weapon can be safely stored in. James Q. Wilson says “there is no way to extinguish the supply of guns”. This is true it would be impossible
to confiscate the hundreds of millions of firearms in the United States. The right to bear arms was one of the first freedoms our founding fathers wanted to guarantee us. They provided us with this freedom so that we can protect ourselves from those who want to harm us. Taking away the second amendment would only take away the right of law abiding citizens to protect themselves. There are hundreds of self defense cases every year where an innocent civilian had to defend themselves from an attacker with an illegally obtained weapon. What would all of those innocent people done without the second amendment. The criminals would of still have their weapons and the innocents would of had no way to protect themselves. This is why gun control is just not the answer. Others may argue that gun control would decrease deaths by firearms which is true but by taking weapons away from innocents they could not protect themselves from anyone who attacked them but then we would be trading the lives of criminals for the lives of innocents. Gun control is just not a good idea because it has so many more consequences than benefits. As the President of the United States it is your duty to protect our constitution and the freedoms it provides us with. Don't let anyone take away our second Amendment.
