I will be writing a report to explain the reasons for communication in the health and social care setting. There are many reasons that in the health and social care setting uses frequent communication, there are four main reasons for communication. First reason is to give information, second is to obtain information. Third and fourth is to exchange ideas and to meet intellectual, emotional and social needs.
To work in a health and social care setting such as to be a doctor or a nurse, communication is used very frequently. Health practitioners must give information to the patient, the law states they are entitled to know about their health and condition. ‘The patient has a right to be given information about his or her medical diagnosis, treatment regimen, and progress.’1 This suggests the patients must be informed of everything that is going on about their health, health partitions cannot refuse to give information. This then allows the patient to make appropriate, informed decisions about their health. For example a patient who’s addicted to drugs has the right to know about their therapeutic options that are available, they will be informed of the duration of the treatment and the side effects of the drugs they will be taking. This might or might not be important to the patient to make a decision towards their health care treatment. Service users also have the right to refuse information if they would like so and health partitions must respect it. ‘The patient has a right to refuse requests for information by third parties, as well as the right to limit the authorization in any way he or she wishes except where disclosure is provided by law.’2 This suggests they have to respect patient’s requests to their information.
Another reason is to obtain and collect information from patients. This happenes so care workers understand the problem the patient has and is going through. They will have to speak to them to see what is wrong. In
