Reasons For Drum Major
Through careful consideration and self-evaluation, I have discovered many qualities that help me stand apart from the other candidates interested in this position. There are many traits that, when combined, make a very efficient leader. I feel that I would be a great choice for drum major because I have many leadership skills that are needed for a position of this nature. Although I possess a plethora of meaningful and essential qualities that any excellent leader must have, I feel that my most substantial characteristics are my flexibility, confidence, and passion.
Confidence is definitely an important trait of a good leader, because if I am not leading with confidence then how can my group feel confident about what they are doing? I feel

I always think of this quote from La La Land, “People love what other people are passionate about.” Passion is a mixture of so many important characteristics of a well rounded individual such as, Hard work, love, and dedication. My passion for music pushed me to work harder to increase my knowledge base more than anything else. My passion and love for music is the reason I work so hard and show as much dedication as I do. That is the reason I continue to do solo ensemble, and when I don’t get a score I’m happy with I learn another piece while learning West Side Story. I think that one of my biggest weaknesses contributes to my strength of being passionate. I oftentimes expect too much of myself and push myself a little too hard, but I see that as ambitious and committed. Throughout high school I have dedicated all of my time to my music, that is why I plan on auditioning for MYSO and UWAY this spring. My passion is the reason I can say that all of my frustration and aggravation of not being able to play something right away will be worth it. I strongly believe that the arts are not only what many people need, but it is what the world needs. If people can set aside their differences to come together and make something so extraordinary, such as music, our society might be a little less hectic. My love for this department is the reason I want to become a drum major and the reason I feel I would be a really good …show more content…
I love to help and serve in all ways possible. Whether that is through leading in Church, through Girl Scouts or volunteering at the Humane Society. I find many ways to lead and keep myself busy when I’m not participating in some sort of musical activity. I teach sunday school at my church, K4 - 2nd grade, which presents itself with its fair share of challenges. This has given me the opportunity to work with different age groups, such as the children, their grandparents, and their parents. This experience has helped me learn how approach a variety of different issues that pop up. I also serve through my church by going on mission trips and helping lead the annual food pack and school kit pack. I love all of these events because they give me the opportunity to do something I love and something I’m good at. Through these programs I have furthered myself as a leader and as a

There may be days when things are not going according to plan. A good leader must maintain the team morale and keep things going in a positive direction. A good leader will set the example, by staying calm and confident, to the rest of the team members. Team members always follow by example, so a good leader must contain a positive attitude. I am a leader. I have all the qualities that make a great leader, but I was not born this way.Experiences and how someone reacts to those experiences are what truly make a leader. One of the most influential experiences I have gone through is called the Lebanon High School Marching Band. I am certain that I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for marching band. Before coming to high school I already had leadership qualities, but band helped bring all those great qualities together and helped me get past my two major flaws: my lack of self-confidence and the fact that I was probably one of the shyest people you would EVER meet. When I joined marching band, I spent most of my waking hours sweating and suffering alongside wonderful people that I longed to…

As for character of what I would bring to the band, I am laid back and easy going but I can be very strict when I need to. Whenever we aren’t doing something I usually chat or goof off, but when it’s time to begin, it’s time to settle down, so I center my focus and get right to work trying to get everyone to fall into line. I am very dedicated to music and band so there wouldn’t have to be any worries with my responsibilities for the band. Also, I don’t play any sports or do anything besides choir and band all year with the exception of musical in the spring and diff and AP…

I am a church member and musician at Revival Tabernacle. By being a musician, I find myself working with the talents and ideas of others as we come together on one accord and produce a skilled sound. I am also currently a student at Jones County High School. Being a student, I am a service to other organizations at school by being an usher for Graduation and also the Chorus Department. My recent involvement in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and DECA has enriched my knowledge of the business sector and how we all come together as a society and produce great ideas. In these organizations, I was able to be a holiday helper at local Nursing Homes to bring cheer to the residents. From my participation in these organizations and activities, I learned that it is better to give than receive. I was able to gain experience with dealing with the public and also give people a sense of comfort and love.…

In the classroom, I’m a student; outside, I am a leader. President, diplomat, and American statesman John Quincy Adams spoke out about leadership, saying, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” (John Quincy Adams). These qualities of a leader reside in the role of a drum major.…

I am applying for both section leader and drum major because I have a lot to offer in both positions in the band. I am a great leader, with a lot of maturity and know when it’s time to be serious, and when it’s time to joke around. Every day, I grow more and more with this band and leading this band as drum major, or leading the saxophones as section leader, would be an amazing accomplishment for me and I know I can do the job well.…

Music has played a significant role throughout my whole life. All throughout middle school and high school I have been a performer, participating in many different musical organizations including orchestra and choir. These personal experiences have broadened my interests in music. In middle school I was in choice voices, which was a special singing group for people who excelled in singing. When I went to high school I stayed in the same program and even became senior section leader of my choir, conducting different songs at our concert and being in charge of different performances. During my childhood I was part of the choir at my church, and performed during the different holiday masses.…

I was in band for 2 years and in those two years I learned how to play the trumpet and how to proficiently read sheet music. In 8th grade I decided that I would again take choir and I would find that my years of experience and bettering my ear for music would pay off. I took choir for another 5 years after that and it was there that I learned two things. I learned how to play the piano which I now realize has helped me learn memorization skills and coordination. However, I also learned leadership skills. Because I eventually became proficient in my singing skill and I also was so eager to learn and better myself, I became the leader of my choir in my junior year of high school. I was then awarded the National School Choral award which was the highest achievement in high school for choral programs. After this achievement passed, I decided to continue bettering myself though choir, piano class, and music appreciation, to make myself an ideal candidate to help others with their musical journey. I have always wanted to be a music teacher because I feel that music is what teaches people how to recognize true beauty and develop insight. Music is my passion and that passion will never become burnt out. Music has been frustrating but I have never given up, I have only tried to make myself better.…

At the age of 10, my parents encouraged me to volunteer as an altar server in the church. Good thing they did because this helped me to overcome stage fright and to see life from a bigger perspective, a world where everyone deserves a good quality of life and freedom. As a youth group member, I was lucky enough to get the chance to go to New Orleans in the summer of 2011. During my stay, I was able to help others in a way that changed my life. When I was helping serve food, picking up trash, and helping to restore a church, I looked at children and families who were receiving that help. Their faces were priceless. It was like they won the lottery. Helping young and old, children, and families who were less fortunate than me, made me realize that I want to help people in some way when I grow up. That’s what made me want to pursue a career in health education after I graduate.…

Leadership… I always try my best to obtain as many leadership positions as possible, of course, with the assurance that I can handle them all. I can always be critical and say it's pretty obvious I have leadership qualities just because I'm class president, but as a leader I try not to think of it as just a title. A leader should be one that is more constructive and less critical. A critical person may think there has got to be a better way to do something, but a constructive person knows what that "Better way" might be. A leader can best be described as, responsible, successful, and resourceful. When it comes to showing good leadership I think I can truly live up to it, because of the positions I uphold.…
