The current slogan of the US Army is “Army Strong” (New Army). This catch phrase is used as a recruiting tool to convince men and women to enlist in the Army as a career. People have the choice to either enlist in either Active Duty or the Reserves (Serve your way). With either choice, soldiers will be gaining a sense of pride and other traits. When a soldier is enlisting they also have the decision of choosing a commitment of two to six years, depending on their job and personal preference (Active Army). Joining the Army provides a wide array of possible careers for all soldiers (Browse army). Since the Army allows soldiers as young as 17 to enlist, a door of opportunity is open for those looking for an early start (Enlisting in the Army). The ASVAB test is a test created by the Department of Defense to determine someone’s mental qualification to enlist. The test scores various areas of knowledge such as General Science, Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, and Electronics Information etc… (Understanding the ASVAB). The higher a soldier scores on the ASVAB the greater options they will have when deciding which job they want. However; a soldier may score high on their ASVAB, but that does not guarantee the job they want will have an opening. If that’s the case, the soldier can wait for another position to open, or choose a different job in general.
