With the many papers we have written about the current issues and events in the world I have grasped a better understanding of what these issues bring to society. Furthermore, “ The ba on Santa Claus” article was the most impactful to me. The fact that a traditional and fictional character is seen as something that should be banned in public schools was quite eye opening. Public school is a way to submerge students in different cultures and traditions if you ban characters that identify a difference in a culture then you are showing students that others traditions are “out of the norm”. When you sit down to write a current issue paper you have to rip the “issues” apart and look at them from different perspectives you gather different thoughts on the issue consequently, this class has taught me how to look at things as others would. When we wrote about the “Obama pardons” I had to think about each pardon and clemency as President Obama was in order to grasp his perspective on the situations. Breaking down the outlook of others is something I never really did before when reading and writing.
