One would think that eating cod would be more enjoyable than reading about them. This is not the case in Mark Kurlansky's book entitled Cod: A biography of the Fish That Changed the World. Before reading this book I was wondering to myself how an author like Kurlansky could make a book about cod so fascinating and very hard to put down. In my opinion, Kurlansky portrays one of the most mundane items and transforms it into an engaging and informing text that is truly easy to read. To give a brief synopsis, this book takes the reader from low impact commercial fishing of ancient Basque fishermen, through the Cod Wars between England and Iceland, to the destructive power of modern fisheries.…

Everything from Pompano, Snook, Flounder, Lady Fish and Catfish, to the many different types of Snappers are caught easily throughout the day. We have found that in many places you can pull Snappers up one right after another just before the sun goes down. If you have your fire going they make an easy, delicious dinner on the grill, just bring a little aluminum foil and your all set! Another one of the great attractions to kayaking on the Indian River Lagoon is the abundance of wildlife in the area. It is not out of the ordinary to see a pod of dolphins swimming by. Each time they surface they blow air through their blow hole, which can be pretty startling if you weren't aware they were so close. It is quite the sight when they surface near you as you are paddling along, especially because you are at water level with them and they are such impressively large animals. In the winter time, which has perfect weather for kayaking in Florida, there a lot of manatee in the area too. Huge and awesome they look a little intimidating but they are very docile and curious, coming right up to your kayak to get a good look at you. There are also many sting rays in the area along with gigantic sea turtles, we have spotted some at least five foot across, with a head that is bigger than a…

Bass Fishing is one of America’s most famous pass times and started with very humble beginnings. Bass fishing became popular soon after George W. Perry caught a twenty-two pound four once largemouth bass. In those days he was only fishing to put food on the table, and his only reward was seventy five dollars in store bought goods as first prize for field and steam magazines fishing contest. This bass set the record in America for bass fishing and has stood for almost fifty years. The official measurements were taken in Helena, Georgia.Bass fishing has sense evolved from what George Perry was used to and is now aided by many newer inventions such as artificial lures and advanced fishing reels. None of these fishing, but were adapted by the fishermen themselves. Bass fishing became more widespread as more and more rivers were dammed for hydroelectricity purposes. As these dams polluted the water they killed most of the river’s trout and salmon. Bass were then imported to replace the trout and to help sustain the ecosystems around these dams. This was an excellent opportunity for fishermen, and was taken full advantage of.…

Fishing bait is a generic term for any type of substance or material which is used to attract fish to a fishing hook or line. As the times have changed and some people’s opinions of fishing with live bait have changed, so has the variety of bait that has become available.…

In the world of bass fishing there are many baits that are used to catch bass, but the ones in this paper are just some common ones used. Carolina rig is a deep-water assembly that uses a heavy slip sinker, plastic bead, barrel swivel, 16-to 18-inch leader, hook, and soft-plastic bait such as a worm, lizard, or crawfish. The rig is weedless because the hook is buried in the body of the bait, this combination is excellent for fishing ledges, points, sandbars, and humps (Chen). This is a bait that can feel heavy after a while of casting it, but it is a bait that that is meant to be very close to bottom of the water allowing the fisherman to get right…
