Reflection: My Writing Process
After reflecting on the last semester, I realize how much I have grown as a writer. I still have a long way to go, but I have certainly improved. Since Mr. Frigo allowed us to choose our topic for each essay I was always able to write about something that interests me. That also allowed me to focus more on the process of writing than the content. With a better understanding of the five-step writing process I will be able to endure College Writing II.
In the past, I tended to push off writing assignments until the last minute, which I still occasionally do today. In high school, however, I only had a final draft due. I never made an outline before I started writing and I certainly did not revise my essay multiple times. I would often end up writing most of the essay the night before; relying on heavily on corrections to gain back points. Because of this, I usually received decent grades, but did not benefit from my process. After applying the five-step writing process for a semester, I now realize how beneficial it can be when used properly.

I can be distracted easily while writing. This causes me to veer off on tangents leading farther and farther from the original topic. An outline helps me to stay on track. For each of the three essays that we wrote this semester I created a very detailed outline. I could have easily written a general outline in less than five minutes, but I prefer to write them using full sentences. A detailed outline saves me time when it comes to writing the first draft since I already have the majority of the essay written. All I have left to do is connect the

I think that an outline does make the writing process go more smoothly. Once you create an outline of what thoughts and opinions you want to discuss in your essay, you are capable to write your paper by assembling all your ideas and putting them into a format that is organized and easily understood. I feel that without an outline the reader would be completely confused. Before I begin outlining the information, my essay writing does not make much sense. The reason for this is I did not have a set guide, so I just rambled. An outline can help achieve a higher grade for your paper because it organizes the main points you want to cover in your paper. You need an outline so that you remember all your key points, leaving out nothing you wanted to cover. If you write according to an outline, the paper will be much easier to edit and revise as needed.…

By utilizing four steps, I can effectively write an essay on the topics assigned during this program (Bethel, 2015). The first step is developing a clear point and is followed by supporting ideas. I plan to use quick notes to get my ideas down and make sure I need them. Next I need to organize my ideas to explain how I arrived at my thesis. Finally, I need to proofread my writing to omit any grammar or writing mistakes. These steps can help my writing be more concise and improve over time.…

In the past a thousand weeks, I feel like I have accomplished a great deal. As the quarter ends, I find myself reflecting not only how I have survived my fifth quarter but also what I have learned. The most important thing I have learned so far is how to become a better writer. I did not think it could really happen to me. I did not think I could handle all the work. I did not think I could actually become a better writer. Somehow, after all the hours of writing, and putting effort into my papers that I wrote in this quarter, I became a better writer. I did this because I concentrated on two very important areas. With help from an awesome teacher and my partner, I have become a better writer by improving my skills in the areas of procrastination and content.…

My writing process is usually all over the place, I have to be in my room with my door shut, my music on, my fan on, and my television on, weird, I know, but that is what I have to do in order to keep myself concentrated. After I am all situated I begin by writing down different ideas on a couple sheets of paper, listing ways I could support this idea and how it relates to my topic, sometimes when I am stuck I look up sample essays online to help me out of my rut. Once I finally choose an idea I start writing the first things that pop into my head down on another sheet of paper, it usually ends up being a jumbled mess that only I can understand. After all of my ideas are laid out onto the paper I begin placing numbers beside them so I know…

I have learned that revising your writing makes it way better than before. You find your mistakes and realize you can replace words such as “bring to” to a different high vocabulary word such as “cease”. I know now that there is no way to make your paper perfect. There will always be a word, words, or sentence you could change. In addition, I’ve gained a better understanding on passive and active sentences. Once I was done writing my paper, and began to reread it I found some passive sentences. All I did was revise the sentence which helped my writing flow better. Initially, I read the first paper I wrote for the Quarter 1 Writing Assessment and I noticed that I didn’t follow the directions completely. As I read on, there were many simple sentences and not many transitional words.…

When one masters a certain practice, one becomes confident and nearly perfects the practice either because one had guidance or practiced continuously. I have not put myself in either one of those situations. To be honest, I write ‘put myself’ because I believe I had the choice of removing myself from classrooms to another better one; and the choice of being able to discipline myself to practice writing continuously.…

My work from the beginning of STEP to now has drastically changed especially in my writing. I never enjoyed writing essays because I did not do well with writing under pressure. After completing my essay, I felt confident about what I produced. However ,when my essay was handed back, it was noted that I lacked vocabulary, figurative language and my sentence structure was poor. After being in class, I have improved on my essay writing skills. I used more vocabulary terms than I usually would in my essays, had better sentence structure, and completed the entire essay with time to spare to check it over. In addition I learned that i have been using seven deadly writing sins in my writing. Continuously writing and having my peers edit my work helped me eliminated those sins from my writing. When school starts again, I will be prepared to write a timed essay with the new skills I have attained.…

First, I must say that I am a writer that procrastinates a lot. I’ll have good intentions to start an essay when I first get home, but then I get hungry, look up car parts, and lose interest in writing the piece. But, once I get in the swing of writing I can normally stay focused. I usually write essays in a calm, quiet environment, occasionally…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. My writing changed in many ways such as learning to eliminate unnecessary wording in my thesis, the use of synonyms, analyzing quotes and writing abstract to concrete thoughts or ideas. This Class not only helped enhance my writing abilities but to also better evaluate the writings of others and forced me to acknowledge the rigorous work of future courses in college.…

This year I finalized my writing process and how I choose to go about writing my works. I focused on a number of Composition and Writing Process pieces in my portfolio. In the past, I was used to writing rough drafts for all my final papers and only occasionally would I write an outline for them as well. As shown mainly through the Cultural Identity process, the slower and more thorough of a process I take with my writing, the better it will be. Similarly, the rough draft I wrote for my persuasive essay showed multiple errors and places that need to be fixed and patched up in order to improve the strength of my message. For a good majority of the papers I wrote this year, I wrote an outline and a rough draft that was revised at least once. I believe that I have become accustom to a writing…

In school, we have been required to write many papers on many different subjects, some being timed and others not. Writing has never been something that has come easy to me, especially when put on the spot and told to write a paper in a certain amount of hours. When I write, I like to have time to think and plan my essay. Being able to revise and edit the paper makes it even better than it was before. When I am given the time to plan my essay, the writing has more depth than when I am put on the spot and have no time to think about what will go into my paper.…
