Reflection On A Long Way Gone

A Long Way Gone is a really good book and it teaches a lot of stories throughout the book. I think that what happened there was a really sad thing and I would never wish it on anybody. I think that a really good lesson we should learn from the book is that people can survive the hardest things in life by holding onto memories and hoping for the best. I think this is important because every time Ishmael was about to give up, he would always think of a happy memory from his childhood about his family and friends. Another lesson I think we should learn from the book is that if you were a bad person you can always turn your life around and become good person. In the beginning of the book, Ishmael was a young boy who had never even thought about
war until he was twelve years old. He was always hiding from the rebels and later on he joined a group and they fought against the rebels in war. During the war Ismael was brainwashed to do drugs and kill people. Towards the end of the book he went to a rehabilitation center right outside of the city. They helped Ishmael stop thinking that way. They helped him a lot because he later on got asked to go speak to the UNICEF people in New York about what life was like back in Africa. Overall Ishmael went through a lot of stuff in a short amount of time and now he is now okay, living in New York.
