On the first week of placement, I progressed from observing the hooking up of ambulatory monitors to completing a hooking up of the leads in the Holter monitor by myself. The clinical supervisor talked the patient through the monitor. I completed skin preparation of the patient’s skin before I placed on the ECG electrodes. Skin preparation is done by using a skin abrasion pad and an alcohol wipe. If the male patient had a hairy chest, I would ask for the patient’s consent to remove the chest hair before doing the skin preparation (Passanisi, 2001). I hook up the leads to the ECG electrodes and started the patient’s monitor to record their ECG for the 24-hour period.
