My eyes have now been opened to how important this subject is, not just for teachers to know, but also for teachers to pass
on to their students. During week three we were asked to look at the ECE Health, Safety and Nutrition Competency and see what sparked our interests on the subject of wellness. From this assignment, I also found out something noteworthy about myself. In a majority of my interests, I found myself keeping in mind of the family members well being as well. In the future, when I picture myself as teacher in my own classroom, I want to have a good relationship with my student’s parents. However, I did not think about how much I really value being supportive to the parents, particularly when it comes to health, safety and nutrition. Another assignment that opened my eyes was the cupcake crisis presentation. Like I stated above, this class gave me the opportunity to examine my schools policy handbook. Working at the school as a Teachers Assistant, I have not had the time, and sadly not too much desire to read through the whole handbook. However, since this course obligated me to do so, I was able to gain more knowledge on my school, and get a better appreciation for my school. I say this because from reading the policy handbook, I can tell how important nutrition and keeping their students healthy is to my school, and from this course that makes me very grateful that I am part of a community that feels this way.
