Reflection On Ryerson Admissions
To whom this may concern,

There are several reasons that I did not perform well for the duration of my high school career. I am hoping that the Ryerson Admissions will consider the following reasons when evaluating my application to the Creative Industries program September 2016. I suffered mental stress regarding issues with my father, which affected my school attendance drastically; ultimately, this led me to suffer from depression. I was involved in high level competitive sports which I used as my outlet for happiness, unfortunately also contributed to my absences. Since leaving high school and taking the time to deal with my setbacks I have come back strong and more determined than ever. My marks now reflect my efforts in class and I

I am not your traditional medical school applicant. I do not have a 4.0 at a fancy big U nor have I helped helpless African children fight malaria, which is a goal of mine, but I digress. I did not make the best choices when I was younger and did not realize my full potential until the age of 21. I attended a semester at a party school when I was 18 and convinced myself school was not for me, when in fact, it was just an excuse to coast by. I never challenged myself at the awkward age 16-20 years old. I waited tables, worked in a warehouse, and did part time labor-intensive work to pay the rent and bills. I did enough just enough to get by. However, when I was 20, everything came into perspective. I was at a party having a great time with my best friend; I was in Louisiana at the time and as they say, “laissez les bon temps rouler”, translated, let the good times roll. That quickly changed. My best friend had a 5-minute long seizure, as everyone looked dumbfounded around him; I quickly took action, put him on his side and called 911. After a couple hours in the waiting room, two doctors…

My high school experience has leaded me to discover several academic strengths and interests, which now relate to my career choice for the future. My academic interest in financial literacy has made an impact on my academic strengths, which include: leadership, organization, communication, critical-thinking, and writing. Due to my interest in financial literacy, I want to pursue a career in business and real estate. This interest spiked during my junior year while I was recovering from knee surgery. After my procedure, I was expected to be absent from school for five days; however, due to a complication, I was forced to stay home for an unexpected, extended period of time. Before my surgery, I gathered all the homework that I anticipated missing.…

When people hear “pre-medicine,” they think of majors like biology, chemistry, biomedical engineering, health sciences, and other popular majors. I chose chemistry as my major, not only because I wanted to stand out not blend in, but also because I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses. I have always performed better in chemistry than in biology. I prefer challenges and I love the way chemistry challenges me. I am going into freshmen year with the knowledge of the level of difficulty that my major encompasses. I need to remain focused and work hard in order to succeed and achieve a solid gap of at least 3.6 for admission to medical school.…

By reading between the lines, authors like Sherman Alexie and Harper Lee use their writing crafts to make readers look more into the book in a deeper angle. Looking at To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, throughout her text, she adds figurative language and foreshadowing to show the readers upcoming events that might occur. Which affects the reader's thoughts while reading the text because writing crafts like figurative language spark ideas and reveal characterization. In the start of the book, the main character Atticus teaches his daughter Scout about open-mindedness. Lee writes, "'First of all,' he said, 'If you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point…

Many people choose to shut down and drag their feet through life when one thing goes wrong for them and their day is suddenly ruined in their mind. I have done the complete opposite of this in my life and for this I think I am worthy of admission. I’ve been broadcasting on the air for three years, which is on average, three years longer than anyone else my age, I’m almost light years ahead of my competition. My work ethic has gotten me farther in my life in eighteen years to this point than some have managed to accomplish in easily thirty or forty years. I should be accepted to any university because I have the tools and talents to go far in my life, and I’m just searching for the college that can help me new and greater…

Journal Entry #1 Most of my high school experience has not been pleasant. I have struggled with depression and anxiety, as well as physical health problems since the end of sixth grade. My attitude and attendance in school have been inconsistent up until the end of last year; my second junior year. Up until that moment, I thought that school was a complete waste of time, and that the only thing our education system was meant to do was condition people to give up their individualism and turn them into mindless sheeple. However, over the summer I began to realize that having a negative attitude towards my life and everything around me was only going to hinder me.…

To show you how much I appreciate your support over the years is by writing this letter. My favorite things I have done in high school are musicals and plays. I’ve been in choir for two years and in singers for two years. I’ve been in two musicals and one play. In the musical the “Sound of Music” I was Louisa Von Trapp. I have been in band, all four years of high school and I played the flute. I’ve been in FCCLA for four years of high school. FCCLA stands for family career community leaders of America. For FCCLA I did a star event which made me a little more confident in speaking in front of large groups of people. I have been in National Honor society for all four years of high school.…

I have been seeking a college degree since I left high school in 2002. It has been a long road for me since there were some obstacles and challenges that hindered me from finishing college in a timely manner. When I first entered college I wasn’t really ready, therefore I skipped classes here and there and eventually stopped going all together; a part of me wished that I would have taken a small break after high school before starting college since I barely passed my senior year of school. I was just not ready to start going back to school again, but I did to please my parents, that’s the first and biggest mistake I have made since I first started college.…
