Members of the school board comprised of ten people. Mike Calhoon is the chairperson and directed the meeting. The vice-chairperson was Scott Meiners. Other members included Bill Mann, Laura Root, Bruce Carrier, Steve Kubik, Joe Hockett, Rusty Blare, and Nelle Schlomer, who was not present. Attending the meeting was a great opportunity to witness parliamentary procedure in action and I thought Mike Calhoon and the rest of the members did a very good job following the rules. They allowed free debate and respected the opinions of other members and people that spoke. However, I did not know why Mr. Carrier and Laura Root did not vote on matters. After the pledge of allegiance, I thought it was a good idea for the school board to ask the students in attendance to introduce themselves. It made us feel more involved and welcome. Some negative things were that when discussing some topics, I felt they talked about them for too long. The discussion of the alumni dance was important, but when the liability came up, one of the 1977 graduates went off topic. He brought up the liability of having people on school grounds during sporting events, which I think was a different situation because of the alcohol that would be involved at the dance. In the dilemma of who to hire to take care of the school grounds during the summer, I agreed with both sides. I agreed that Randy Kludt deserved the job after working so hard at it for multiple years, but I also thought they should show respect to the lowest bidder.
