Centennial School District Board Meeting
I have never been to a school board meeting before, so I am not entirely sure what to expect. I know it is an open meeting, so I am sure there will be several parents of students in the district as well as citizens of area that will be affected by decisions made by the school board. In terms of the agenda, the board will undoubtedly discuss future school functions and the associated budgets, as well as personnel matters. This is a policy-making meeting so I do not expect there to be much input from the audience other than possible questions or concerns. Hopefully the board will address the agenda in an efficient and time effective manor and all disputes will be put to rest.
On October 8 2013 I was able to watch the Centennial School District Board meeting live via their website, which worked very much to my advantage because transportation was a major issue. The meeting took place at the town hall in Warminster, PA. The mission of the school board is to provide an environment for all of its students where they can maximize their potential in education and extracurricular activities with as little difficulty as possible. The school board specifically establishes and evaluates policies for operation of the schools, selects a Superintendent, approves a budget, levies taxes as a means of raising revenue, hires administration, establishes curriculum content, and adopts textbooks upon administrative recommendation. The members of the board include: President Dr. Andrew Pollock, Superintendent Dr. Joyce Mundy, Vice President Betty Huf, Asst. Secretary Kati Driban, and school directors Steven Adams, Michael Hartline, Charles Kleinschmidt, Jane Lynch, Mark Miller, and David Shafter.
The Centennial School district is compromised of schools from the borough of Ivyland and Upper Southampton Township and Warminster Township all located within Bucks County. The demographics for Bucks County are as follows (via http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/42/42017.html): Total

Welcome to the world of Jenks Public Schools (JPS), a world where high achievement, an outstanding athletics program, and multitudinous opportunities for involvement in extracurricular activities abound! It is a world in which high test scores and national awards are the norm rather than the exception, and yet never taken for granted. An important goal of Jenks Public Schools is to identify and provide appropriate educational experiences for those students who give evidence of high performance capability in the area of intelligence or in high school academics and who require differentiated learning opportunities or experiences, provided by the school, that develop such capabilities. There are thirty-five private/nonprofit schools in the Tulsa area. There are three private schools within the JPS attendance area. Over the past three years there has been an average of 177 open transfer requests from families in other school districts to enroll in JPS. Conversely, during the past two years there has been an average of 30 open transfer requests from JPS families to enroll in other districts. This is a testimony to the high expectations for teaching and learning in the District. Because of the desire on the part of parents to enroll their students in JPS, homes sell for premium prices within the District’s boundaries. Base on housing starts and the average cost of homes. The net gain of the total district enrollment has increased by 823 students over the past 10 years, from 8448 students in 1994 to 9271 students in 2004. The Blackfoot School District has gone through many leadership changes in the past 5 years. We have had three different super intendents, and 5 out of 6 elementary principals changed schools. I think that the district is doing better at curriculum planning now that leadership changes are settling down. The district also hired a new curriculum director that is amazing and very well organized. I am excited to see all her hard work continue to improve our district. I also had no idea how much planning and organizing went into curriculum changes. I thought that a committee was formed, written curriculum examples and pilots were given out, and then the committee got together and made a recommendation after piloting material. After reading this…
