Ms. Cynthia Wilson is the active superintendent of Orangeburg Consolidated School District 5. Her leadership serves a big school district comprised of three high schools, a Technology Center, three middle schools and eight elementary schools. Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five, the largest of three public school districts in Orangeburg County, serves approximately 7,000 students living in the city of Orangeburg and the communities of Bowman and North. Ms. Wilson dedicated her 22 years in the field of education. Contracted in 2010, she started her journey with a vision “Working Together to Build a World-Class School System”. Wilson is a dynamic personality and extends her communication to a wider scope. When Ms. Wilson was addressing the class, I came to know about various business organizations. She also mentioned the significance of the links with various government and non-government organizations. The sponsorship from various business communities is supportive for running the programs directly or indirectly linked to the students’ achievement. Ms. Wilson believes in a working culture where students learn in a safe and creative environment. Her theory is influenced by a pragmatic approach as she states that proficient use of technology is essential for the success in a global society. She empowers her team and extends all the opportunities to learn and grow professionally.Her principle of leadership is based on a five “I”s, which stand for instruct, inform, intervene, improve and include. She is a courageous leader with two-way communication policy. She is open to the criticism and answers all the questions whenever raised by the people of the community. Ms. Wilson is known and appreciated for her strong leadership qualities. Although, the role of a superintendent is very demanding and challenging but leaders bestowed with leadership traits achieve their goals. Ms. Wilson has achieved her goals mentioned in her 100 days plan. The journey is not finished yet, each year bring new challenges and opportunities.
