Reflective Essay: How I Learned In My Writing Class
How did I learn to write? Well there are a few ways I learned, I first learned though my likeness of the color blue, my inability to write the letter z correctly, and through my love for reading Captain Underpants. Each of these ways impacted me in different ways and they all taught me something different about the type of writer I am.
I began to write by first learning how to read. I remember when I was much younger I would be in class; the exact class escapes me at the moment. However, I remember the teacher had all the colors of the rainbow on the wall in our class along with an example of an object containing each color and the spelling of each color as well. There was nothing special about the setup of the colors or anything but I will never forget the color blue that hung on the wall. I would always find myself mid lesson losing focus in the topic and instead of giving the teacher my undivided attention I instead stared at the color blue poster on the wall. I remember saying “blue, B...L...U... E, blue” over and over to myself and eventually I began to write it. The word blue more than anything is what helped me to learn how to write, and this taught me that I was able to learn

Writing has been very useful to my life, with writing I have been able to express myself in a plethora of ways. Writing has allowed me to communicate effectively through emails, texting, letters, and many other places. Furthermore, I have been able to still create the stories I mentioned before, but the quality of these stories have gotten better. I have also been able to use my writing to create videos. I have written scripts for videos and I have been able to create short videos. I would write out these scripts when I just have a good idea for a story and I would use this feature on this video game called Grand Theft Auto V to film and edit scenes and eventually upload my final edition to YouTube for myself or others to

I tend to always have a strong introduction but once I began to go into my first body paragraph I lose my train of thought. One of my main issues is that I get to wordy. Which then leaves me with fragments. Lastly, which I’m sure most people have an issue with is basic grammar errors such as, spelling and placing commas. Throughout this semester I have received a lot of input and criticism on my essays from my TA, my professor and fellow students. This semester I was fortunate to receive quick, fairly reliable, built in feedback. From the feedback that I have received by taking this class I believe that I have become a better writer as it was beneficial for the most part. Feedback that I received from my fellow students was occasionally helpful. It typically varied from week to week. One week I would write a paper and get a ton of markings and criticism on it which was helpful because I was able to see what I did wrong and I would rarely have to get it proof read another time. Other times I would turn in a paper and it would come back with few markings and comments. This felt almost like a waste of time because I knew that I had more mistakes that I did not catch earlier. Because of this I would have to go out of my way and someone else would have to go out of their way to get it proof read again, or I would risk handing in the good copy with mistakes. One thing that I appreciated from peer evaluation days was that was able to see what worked in my paper, what did not and what I need to improve on.…

Over the course of this year in English, I think my writing process has excelled the most along with my overall writing. In the past, I have used similar techniques to develop a final essay, but, this year, I have begin to rely more heavily on planning out and slowly chipping away at my essays and papers. I believe also that because of this planning the strength of my writing as a whole has grown. Personally, I do not think that I grew in my vocabulary usage. Overall this year, I grew as a writer in ways that I would not have predicted.…

I began writing at the very young age of eleven. The first thing I remember writing was a heartfelt song called finished. Even though I was too young to fully understand relationships, I wrote that song as if I had experienced it myself. After I wrote my first song I began to write poetry to express my feelings. Once my mom found out about my writings, I started writing poems for different programs at our church. Throughout the years, I began to enter a variety of poetry contests. In my junior year of high school I wrote a poem about bullying and won first place. Writing is a getaway for me, it always has been and it always will be.…

Writing has always been my most difficult part of English. Reading, on the other hand, is something I could do all day; however, with writing, I grimace just thinking about it. It was not that I did not have anything to say, because I actually have quite a bit to say. I just could never figure out how to phrase what I had to say in just right way on the page. My mom taught me to read and write at a young age. After that, I would devour any book that I could get my hands on. However, I have had trouble with writing since it became more than just my alphabet and numbers.…
