Reflective Essay: My First Test In AP Biology

It was not until junior year, that I realized I could not coast through tests like I had previously done. Or should I say it was not until my first test in AP Biology, that I realized I actually had to go the extra mile and put forth maximum effort into studying and reviewing. I needed a biology mentor like Mrs.Ciasulli to bring out the best in me because she knew of my aspirations to work in the medical field. Although she attempted to make my life as difficult as possible, she made me fall in love with the material and gain much more appreciation for the study of biology. AP Biology then became the class I was most infatuated with, to a point where I would spend hours consuming myself in the information we were taught that week. Not only
did I find the material interesting, but it also made me realize that there are many intricacies that must be learned when applied to a field of medicine. However, I wasn’t so concerned about learning millions of details, but more excited for the learning challenge and a chance to gain as much knowledge as possible.

My dream of being a doctor is what has ultimately drawn me to a major in biology. As a child who would help his teachers erase the board at the end of class, help his mother wash the dishes, or simply be there when a friend needed me most, I found that my true passion in life was to care for others, whether that meant putting a smile on a friend’s face or simply making another person’s life a little bit easier. A career as a medical professional would allow me to spend the rest of my life doing what I love.
