In addition, spirituality in others in health care is not applied as well as it should be and how the small things about a person are just as important to helping someone recover (Saebo). Furthermore, RCN (2018) supports this as it states that spirituality is ‘hope and strength’ in dark times of illness. This made me feel emotional as we had to talk about our own spiritual situations and what makes spirituality important to me. This is supported by the Nursing and Midwifery Council [NMC] (2010) which states that a nurse must build partnerships and therapeutic relationships through safe, effective and non-discriminatory communication. They must take account of individual differences, capabilities, needs and placing patient at the centre of care. This is of an importance as I could put myself into patient’s shoes and how they could be feeling in hospital or going through dark times with illness. This was also bad as not every patient may have spiritual needs or may be willing to share them as openly as I am, which could be difficult when trying to connect with a patient or build an interpersonal relationship (Fierce Healthcare). I remembered that every individual is different and not to judge their spirituality or to impose my own beliefs on them.
