Reflective Essay On My Writing Process
Writing is definitely a process. How I wrote when I was a child and how I write today is extremely different. My relationship with reading has also changed as I grow older. My reading journey began in kindergarten. The school I attended for kindergarten passed out books to each student to take out and read with their parent. I would read one sentence of the book aloud and then my mom would read the next sentence. I would be sent home a new book each week and my mom and I would read them before going to bed. These books made me like reading because I didn’t have to read a whole book since my mom and I shared each line. This reading strategy was a good start for my reading journey. My level of reading increased exponentially during middle …show more content…
I start off with what one of my english teachers in high school called “prewriting” . Prewriting consists of writing down what I want to put in to my essay and what the order of those ideas will be.nUsually, I start off with writing down the main topic of what the paper is about. Then I write down a few main points I want to be put in my writing. Under those points, I put the supporting idea of the main points, this helps me with organizing paper so I don’t begin writing with no idea what I want to write. To begin my essay, I start with a topic paragraph that gets the reader engaged or hooked and is a brief synopsis of what the paper will be about. In my topic paragraph I include the purpose of the essay, who the essay is directed to, whether it’s little kids or adults, and the main idea of the essay. I begin to struggle on my essay once I get to the conclusion, a problem for me is that I get repetitive and want to sum up the previous writing without repeating what I already said. Overall, writing essays is not a pleasant experience for me. Personally, writing an essay requires a lot of planning, erasing sentences just to add them back. Writing essays has always been a struggle for me and they take a lot of time for me to find a final draft that I would turn in for a

Although there is much I can’t recall from my early days of reading, there are some momentous flashbacks. When I was beginning elementary school my parents were very eager to introduce me to doing a great deal of reading, they wanted me to enjoy reading for a while and they succeeded. We lived within walking distance of the public library which allowed us to frequently visit the library to read and check out books. I always remembered the vast shelves of books that seemed like they never had an end. In addition to reading at the library we checked books out to bring home to read, this allowed me to read as much as I wanted to. Correspondent to the amount of reading I did, the more I enjoyed it and improved at reading.…

By utilizing four steps, I can effectively write an essay on the topics assigned during this program (Bethel, 2015). Next I need to organize my ideas to explain how I arrived at my thesis. Finally, I need to proofread my writing to omit any grammar or writing mistakes. These steps can help my writing be more concise and improve over time.…

I have learned that revising your writing makes it way better than before. You find your mistakes and realize you can replace words such as “bring to” to a different high vocabulary word such as “cease”. I know now that there is no way to make your paper perfect. There will always be a word, words, or sentence you could change. In addition, I’ve gained a better understanding on passive and active sentences. Once I was done writing my paper, and began to reread it I found some passive sentences. All I did was revise the sentence which helped my writing flow better. Initially, I read the first paper I wrote for the Quarter 1 Writing Assessment and I noticed that I didn’t follow the directions completely. As I read on, there were many simple sentences and not many transitional words.…

When one masters a certain practice, one becomes confident and nearly perfects the practice either because one had guidance or practiced continuously. I have not put myself in either one of those situations. To be honest, I write ‘put myself’ because I believe I had the choice of removing myself from classrooms to another better one; and the choice of being able to discipline myself to practice writing continuously.…

Throughout this semester I have received a lot of input and criticism on my essays from my TA, my professor and fellow students. This semester I was fortunate to receive quick, fairly reliable, built in feedback. From the feedback that I have received by taking this class I believe that I have become a better writer as it was beneficial for the most part. Feedback that I received from my fellow students was occasionally helpful. It typically varied from week to week. One week I would write a paper and get a ton of markings and criticism on it which was helpful because I was able to see what I did wrong and I would rarely have to get it proof read another time. Other times I would turn in a paper and it would come back with few markings and comments. This felt almost like a waste of time because I knew that I had more mistakes that I did not catch earlier. Because of this I would have to go out of my way and someone else would have to go out of their way to get it proof read again, or I would risk handing in the good copy with mistakes. One thing that I appreciated from peer evaluation days was that was able to see what worked in my paper, what did not and what I need to improve on.…

Writing a piece of persuasive writing and bringing it through the writing process until publication has taught me so much about myself as a writer, nonfiction writing, and being a teacher of writing. Gillespie (1985) explained that only when teachers are writers can they truly teach writing, and throughout my writing process, I was able to think of various lessons that I could teach my students based upon my writing.…

My literacy journey has been going full speed since I was able to comprehend the words that my parents spoke to me. Growing up I was a swift learner, so the concepts of reading, writing, and spelling came quick to me. My perfectionist tendencies assisted me in my motivation to learn to words, how to spell them, and how to use them. My parents took notice of my accelerated learning ability, so they pushed it fully. Going to the library was a fun activity that usually occurred once or twice a week, where I was encouraged to explore all of the books and figure out what I liked the most. They would challenge me by assisting me in figuring out things on my own, instead of babying me through everything that I found confusing.…

Over the course of this year in English, I think my writing process has excelled the most along with my overall writing. In the past, I have used similar techniques to develop a final essay, but, this year, I have begin to rely more heavily on planning out and slowly chipping away at my essays and papers. I believe also that because of this planning the strength of my writing as a whole has grown. Personally, I do not think that I grew in my vocabulary usage. Overall this year, I grew as a writer in ways that I would not have predicted.…

Writing is definitely not my favorite task, but I don’t hate it either. I would say that I am indifferent towards writing. However, writing is a skill that needs to be honed and mastered, because it plays such a key role in almost any career. So when I started working in the lab I was a little apprehensive, because I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. But through my work in the lab I have observed so many different levels of students and how that plays a role in their writing and style; I have even learned some facts about the way I write that I was not aware of. I have learned that I am not very confident in my own writing skills, and I need to work on my writer’s voice.…

    Struggle of Writing

Over the years, writing went from being a process to becoming a series of many processes. Brainstorming, drafting, revising are just some of the events that take place in writing. Finding a flow for words can be a greater challenge. Words do not write themselves. Since writing is never an easy process, the first thing I want is a plan. The more disorganized a paper becomes the harder it is to fix. Before I start writing, I read the topic several times to get a complete understanding of what I should be writing. I need to think about the topic before I start writing ideas and quotes down on paper. In order to stimulate my thoughts, I may not start writing until hours later. By doing this, my brain has time to process my thoughts throughout the day; ideas may formulate faster. Webs or outlines become frustrating, so those are usually avoided. I like to pour out all of the words that are on my mind and write them on paper. Without good ideas, an essay will get nowhere. In my writing, I may choose to go one path or many paths. Normally, I choose the path that requires the less amount of effort since time is usually against me. This time is different though. I want to evolve as a writer since writing does not come naturally; it is a process that is learned over time with lots of effort (Knoll 5). It is impossible to know the end product of an essay, but this is why the writing process is a mystery. Regardless of the reason one writes, one must allow their creativity to be explored to allow their writing to develop.…
