During my master of divinity program, I took two course which helped me do clinical work at my filed education placement. These course were entitled, Introduction to Pastoral Care and Counseling and Vocational Formation and Church Leadership. I applied this learning at my clinical experience at the Vineyard Church of Evanston where I am doing my two years of field education for the years 2014 through 2016. I finish up in May 2016. My job is to meet with the parishioners in need of care, document their stories and assess their emotional struggles. I document these meeting in the format of a verbatim which includes the known details of the care receiver, conversation as I heard, my refection on the whole interview, self evaluation, psychological concerns, sociological concerns, my alternative responses and my final recommendation. In many cases, people who are raised in chaotic households and communities suffer from emotional instability. They may also engage in domestic and societal violence toward their spouses, children or friends. Likewise, people in countries affected by wars have been observed becoming hostile toward fellow citizens. Many of them struggle with their sense of autonomy and accomplishment. Many of this was revealed to me by my clinical work at Vineyard Church of Evanston. I believe that if people affected by their negative memories of major life events were given effective counseling, this will facilitate positive behavioral changes in those who harbor retaliatory emotions.
