Morals were used to expand democratic ideals by reform movements. Document A, according to the Fourth Annual Report which was influenced by the second great awakening claims that prisons should be reformed. If it is, this would be a more humane and a better approach than the older system, and it should be fixed. The second great awakening was made namely to revive Religion, and it was widely successful in the United States. Charles G. Finney, a major character in the Second great awakening claims that “Churches have been reformed, Harlots, Drunkards and infidels have also been converted”. No One is left behind, according to Charles, and supported the democratic ideals by being more humane to others. Church was used to help and convert and awaken others, which helps everyone out. Document E can also fall under here, as the boy praises god for what he has done for him, and is happy because what God has given him. Although, Document F and G, do not support democratic ideals, or what the reformers and ideals were. If everything was perfect it wouldn't be a democracy, but rather a perfect world. Document G also does not support that reforms would make anything better, because they make a new order condemning the old order, their “mother”.
