In Chapter 1, Bibby claims there are two reasons for the decline of Religion amongst Canadians. The first reason is because of a shift in immigration pattern, and secondly the change of mindset of religion led by the baby boomer generation (p. 14). In the immigration patterns area, Bibby explains that Protestant religion has been losing its so-called immigration pipeline; therefore the number of newcomers has declined.

The studies mentioned in these areas by Bibby demonstrate that Canadians are on a polarization continuum, where half are religious and half are not, giving sense to this polarization lens.
In Chapter 4, “Polarization and Pluralism” Bibby explains how tensions may come about when extremists of different natures, some being very religious from others being not the slightest bit religious, come together in Canada. He concludes at the end of the chapter that this balance, this polarization within Canada may actually be good for our own unique country (p.97).
The following chapter, Chapter 5 focuses on polarization and its effect on ones personal well being. Looking closely at three measures of personal well-being, in which were used to measure happiness: Self-Esteem, Personal Concerns, and lastly measures a Preliminary Bottom Line.
