Relationship
Good relationships in all areas of our lives are essential to our physical and emotional health but we seem to always have more trouble rather than achieving them. Many people seem to believe that fundamental differences: of personality, opinion and interests are important factors in creating a strong and long-lasting relationship and that we are more likely to seek for qualities missing in ourselves from our partner or friend. However, this can be argued because these differences can also cause other form of difficulties in a relationship. This, therefore, leads us to the question: Do fundamental differences do more good than bad in a relationship?
It is undeniable to say that every individual is different and unique and being a man or a woman differ is so many different ways both physically and mentally. The differences in personality and perspective make one become attractive to another. These dissimilarities can be such an intriguing topic to begin a conversation when two people start to know each other for example a British man could find an Asian lady very attractive for her looks and interesting for such different culture and way of thinking or doing certain things. Therefore in the first few months of knowing each other and learning different lifestyle would be a totally incredible experience and later on it can be more or less used to spice up the relationship once in a while.
On the other hand, it is still widely believed that similarities are as equally vital in order to maintain a healthy relationship. There are a lot of people who have split up for the fact that “we don’t have anything in common.” which means people also want to be with someone who can share same interests and tend to agree on doing same sort of things. When asking newlyweds or couples who have been together for a long time: What is the main contributing factor to make their relationship last?, most of them would say “Because we get along with everything and we have a lot of

Considering this student has not had the opportunity to spend adulthood with her grandparents or great-grandparents, she does not have the experience of spending time with the older generation. Her mother died a few months after turning 60 but this student doesn’t consider that as being elderly. With that being said, this student can only relate to older adults from a distant-relationship point of view. This simple means her relationship with the older adult population is a world perspective view.…

It has long been debated whether similarities or differences influenced people more in selecting their mates. Popular sayings such as opposites attract and birds of feather flock together show a need for understanding these occurrences in mate selection. The similarity-dissimilarity effect theory in social psychology suggests that people are more likely to positively respond to others who are similar to themselves and negatively to dissimilar others. The greater the degree of attitude similarity between two persons, the greater is their attraction for each other (Leonard,R.L. 1975). According to Leonard (1975) the levels of similarity are based on physical proximity, personal attributes, competence and physical attractiveness of an individual.…

According to this article, I disagree with it because relationships are very strong if you know how to make them work. According to Kenneth Savitsky, a professor of psychology at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts states “Some couples may indeed be on the same wavelength, but may be not as much as they think. You get rushed and preoccupied, and you stop taking the perspective of the other person, precisely because the two of you are so close.”…

The four characteristics that define intimate relationships are behavioral interdependence, needs fulfillment, emotional attachment, and emotional availability. Behavioral interdependence is how people affect one another mutually daily as their lives link. One person influences what the other wants to do, and can do. Relationships that have intimacy fulfill psychological needs and through other relationships one can fulfill needs such as intimacy, social integration, nurturance, assistance, and affirmation. Emotional attachment within relationships involves strong bonds, such as love, sex, religious beliefs, and sharing. The last characteristic is emotional availability that means the ability to give and receive emotionally without the feelings of hurt or rejection. Building relationships involve a degree of risk because no one knows what the other is bringing to the relationship (especially when it is new), until one can share, trust, and care.…
