THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
In our generation today, Social Networking Sites (SNS) like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace are widely used by almost all type of ages. According to study (Goldbeck, Robles, Turner, 2011) it was first only used by the students but recently, it shows that 27 years old is the average age of the users, indicating that it is now being used by older people. In January 2005, a survey of social networking websites estimated that among all sites on the web, there were roughly 115 million members (Goldbeck, Robles, Turner, 2011). Although there were some reported disadvantages, a lot of advantages were being associated by using SNS such as to be connected with old friends, to make friends by adding or messaging others, to be creative by designing one’s personal profile, to get technological skills, and to be open to new or diverse views.
The main element of SNS is the personal profiles which contain the user’s pictures, videos, status, friends and other primary information such as name, age, birthday, hometown, family and educational background, political and religious views and hobbies (Kramer and Winter, 2008). Personal profile allows the user to share their unique identities to other. Users tend to present their attractive descriptions of themselves to gain and attract more friends and followers. It is easy to make positive online self presentation than in face to face interaction. Because of this, a lot of researchers make different studies if SNS users tend to present their ideal personality and not their real personality in their personal profile (Marcus, Mchilek, Schutz, 2006). Users provide a wealth of personal information in their personal profiles (Kramer and Winter, 2008). By exposing too much information, user’s personality comes out through their personal profile. This research attempted to study the relationship between one’s personality traits and the manner of their self-presentation in SNS. If
