My Relationship with Writing
In the past, I was an avid reader and writer. My passion in life was applying my thoughts to paper and using my creativity to capture an audience while relaying information and presenting ideas to an audience. However, over the years, other obligations moved both reading and writing to the back burner. Now that I have returned to school, writing is a requirement. It is time that I dust myself off and get back on the horse. It is time to rebuild my relationship with writing.
In order to improve my writing skills and rebuild my relationship with writing, I must overcome my current writing fear. Since writing in high school, I have become more critical of my writing skills. As well, time restraints often prevent the

One of the values in writing is having the ability to express yourself creatively. By rediscovering, or perhaps discovering for the first time, that the simple act of writing is a transformational process, you can alleviate the pressures that stifle creativity and open up to what you are truly meant to say. You might find that the greatest rewards of writing do not exist in the future with publication and public validation, but evolve during the process of bringing your ideas to the page. Consequently, you will begin to enjoy the freedom of your own creative voice, have a new, more compassionate understanding of yourself and reap rewards that are within your reach right now, just as you are. Each of us is born with a unique way of looking at the world and an unlimited potential for creative thought. But as we grow up, we’re forced to stifle much of our creativity in order to “fit in.” Through personal writing, you can uncover your creative voice again. (Knerr, 2008). As well, you gain a greater sense of self and accomplishment when a writing piece is completed. Just being able to review your work and take pride in the piece presented can help to boost morale and increase writing …show more content…
Writing fear can cause anxiety which can be an extreme hindrance to the writing process. One successful method of overcoming the fear of writing is to identify your writing strengths. By listing your strengths in writing, you are able to reflect on those strengths rather than stressing over those elements of writing that are more difficult for you. It's also important to understand that writing is a complex process. Keeping this in mind will keep writers from beating up on themselves when the project doesn't seem to be going well. The best writers can do is to contribute what they know and feel about a topic at a particular point in time. (Writing Center, 2017). Too often, writers become disheveled and develop writers block when attempting to complete a piece. Readers have to understand that writing is a process and there are steps to follow to ensure a successful

I don't have much to say about writing for myself. Writing doesn't mean much to me. I am not a writer. I am an orator. However, writing does mean something to my wife. I love my wife. She loves to write. She spends hours a day writing. I watch words flow from her fingertips as she writes page after page. She doesn't let me read much of what she writes, but when she does, I can see the passion and the joy that she has for what she writes about. I wish that I could write with such a fire.…

Our discussions run the gamut of topics from idea generation, to the gruelling first draft, to the process of editing, and finally, to publishing. All writers agree: writing is not a simple matter of sitting down in front of your computer and letting the words flow from your fingers as fast as they are created in your head. It just doesn't happen that way. Writing is a job. Writing is difficult.…

I have decided to do a topic near and dear to my heart, writer's block. Actually that was such a lie. I struggle with this almost every time I have to write something, whether it’s a writing prompt or even just a simple response. Say you have to write a five paragraph essay that is due the next day, but you hit a rock and you’re stuck on what to write next. What do you do? How can you get out of this misery? Well, it looks like you have come down with a case of writer’s block. Knowing me, I have had writer’s block too many times but with a couple of tools and strategies, I have learned how to get through it from my tutor who has saved me the many times that this misery has happened. To be honest, which is the best policy in most cases, if I did this rant project a couple of years ago, when I hated writing, I probably wouldn’t have known ANY ways to cope with writer’s block. I still hate it, but at least now I know how to get through it.…

My goal as a challenged writer is to always improve and show my best work. Though it usually takes quite some time for me to produce my absolute best; I often come across problems that constantly bring me to a halt. One of the difficult things to accomplish in writing is usually overcoming writer’s block. From the moment when I first started writing as a child, my main problem always seemed to be writer’s block. However, over the years I’ve learned to somewhat overcome my problem by just putting down the exact thoughts in my head, on paper. Though, it not always easy or works according to plan, it still allows me to perform to the best of my skills. Overall when writing a paper, my first priority is to get the thoughts from my head into the paper. Even though, it may be difficult whether from grammar choices or writer’s block, in the end writing and finishing my assignment and getting a better grade is something I look to improve with this…

For this assignment, write an essay exploring the question of how you see yourself as a writer, what motivates you to write, what processes you use, etc. As an exploratory essay, the form will be rather “open” rather than “closed.” So rather than trying to structure the essay around a central thesis, organize it around the theme in question. This assignment may require you to think deeply about yourself and you may even discover new connections about yourself that you hadn't realized before. Remember to use vivid detail in your writing and avoid writing in generalities. Use specific events from your life and paint a picture of words for your reader to enjoy. Remember, if you find the essay boring, so will your reader!…

The art of writing is a unique skill that requires the writer to have great flexibility and be open to improvement. Some may consider themselves a “perfect writer”, when in reality, no one is, and will ever be. Writing is a process that requires one to continuously build on skills learned in previous situations, applying new techniques and strategies to future writing projects. Different settings require different writing styles, and with that being said, one must be willing to change their writing skills to suit the requirements of their current setting. In the following essay I will reflect on past writing assignments, identifying my best and worst writing courses, strengths and weaknesses as a writer, and my opinion on why writing may or may not be beneficial to me throughout my career.…

Writing in journals for class or writing stories for entertainment proved to be great fun. The writing level of elementary and middle school was easy to learn and work with. Arriving in high school, I felt confident in my writing skills. High school level writing proved to be more challenging. After English I, I felt unprepared for the rest of my high school writing experience. I grew to become uninterested in writing for the next two years. I procrastinated finishing any writing assignment I was given. Though I received decent grades on my assignments, I could have received better grades had I not procrastinated writing my assignments. My attitude toward writing has changed from disinterested to excited with my Composition I and II classes.
