It is said that small people worship personalities but great people worship ideas I, too, like a person but because of his ideas. The person I like is own my father. He is a man of balanced personality with a heart full of love and a mind teeming with sublime thoughts. Fair complexion smooth forehead black curly hair and a pointed nose that shows his strong will power are the main traits of his external appearance. He is a teacher by profession. He is a devoted and diligent works. He is not a book worm. But he spends most of his time in the wise company of his sagacious friends. People like to seek guidance from him. He is always ready to help the needy. His charming face reveals his fascinatiog manners. He is a man of balanced personality. You cannot call him a conservative. Nor can he be called too liberal. He is tolerant, broad minded and optimist. His views about different matters of this world are impartial. Though a true Muslim, he believes in the religion of humanity. He says that love for everyman irrespective of his caste, creed and country should be the essence of every religion. He hates but only one thing i. e, prejudice. He condemns ‘mullahism’ that encourages who mindedness and fuels violent emotions. But he loves religious scholars who spend their time in guiding people and reforming their morals and manners. To him it is the mullah who encourages terrorism, suicide bombing and sectarianism. But the real religious scholar who understands the true spirit of the teachings of Islam never indulge in such heinous activities. Similar is his approach to politics. He advocates equality and fraternity among different classes

He was also a very stubborn man. His stubbornness is part of the reason we are all here today but it is also why he is well respected by most of you. He never took no for an answer and when he was told he couldn’t do something, he went the extra mile just to prove that wrong. I remember that when I was a child, my father built an orphanage in Kabul. Although he had no architectural experience, he drew the blueprints and when he was told to hire an architect, he refused. Dare I say, the orphanage was a huge success and I am proud of my father?…

“Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful,” (Seneca). Religion throughout the times has existed for people to possess a sense of purpose and the urge to seek impossible answers. Religion is not challenged by its adherents for God’s will remains absolute. For this reason, throughout history, many totalitarian governments have regulated what their subjects had the right to believe in. Anything that is believed to be higher than themselves proved possibly dangerous to their supremacy; so throughout history, religion has been an absolute tool used in their favor. In fact, this notion effortlessly applies to both novels, Brave New World (Aldous Huxley) and 1984 (George Orwell). Both pieces…

The term “religiosity” was used by social scientists in order to indicate the extent, commitment, devotion and faithfulness of a person’s participation and practice of his or her religion (Gay and Lynxwiler, 2013). According to Ayenibiowo and Ayeni (2013), religiosity, in its narrowest sense, deals more with how religious an individual is and less with how religious an individual in terms of ritual, symbols and doctrines. On the other hand, religiosity, in its broadest sense, is a multifaceted construct pertaining to various religious activities, devotions and beliefs.…

Yousef Al-Qaradawi has become one of the more infamous and controversial Islamic figures in the 21st century. His fatwas and opinions have always garnered a large amount of following, despite them becoming increasingly more contested in recent years. His aberrant political views have placed him in a questionable place, which made exploring his stance on various other issues (not political) immensely fascinating. Yousef Al-Qaradawi, had a long career as an Islamic figure and in many ways he fought against the rise of islamic extremism/ radicalism. Therefore, in this paper I will argue for the opinion that Yousef Al-Qaradawi is in fact an unbiased Islamic figure and does represent the middle path between…

As a Feminist, I have constantly had to fight for correct and equal representation for women. Growing up, I always favored male clothing as I would recieve my old brother’s school uniforms. Hearing adults question my mother on my choice of clothing influenced me to question the dictation of society placing individuals into categories. This methodology of categories was always present for me in religion; I believed that women were just as suppressed in the bible as in modern day. I would hear the logic behind conservative catholic individuals placing a gender stereotype while learning at a catholic school. Junior year allowed for me to perceive the bible with a Feminist approach. The poem expresses the understanding I made with how the Bible…

    30. At one stage, the Wittgensteinian family resemblance approach was almost universally accepted as the best method available for understanding “religion.” 31. See John Hick, An Interpretation of Religion: Human Responses to the Transcendent (London: Macmillan, 1989), pp. 3–5. Ninian Smart’s popular book The Phenomenon of Religion (London: Macmillan, 1973) was also instrumental in promoting the family resemblance approach. 32. While Wittgenstein himself does not appear to have held that possession of a common feature was a sufficient condition for two things to bear a family resemblance, many of those who have subsequently discussed the family resemblance approach to religion would nevertheless seem to have made this assumption. 33. For a discussion of this and other problems arising from the family resemblance theory, see Timothy Fitzgerald, The Ideology of Religious Studies, op. cit., ch. 4. 34. separation has been regularly tested. In early America, even after church establishment ended, some state legislators sought to revive the compulsory taxation of citizens to support religious institutions. In this century, public schools were once required to teach the biblical version of the earth's and humanity's creation, while the scientific theory of evolution was prohibited. Throughout our history, sectarian advocates have tried to inject religious exercises, such as daily prayer, into the public schools. At times, religious minorities, including members of "cults," have been…

There are presently 35 television stations owned and operated by religious organizations, but every television station features religious programming in one way or another (Postman, 116). Religious television program producers are driven by the desire to make money, and they find the best way to accomplish this is by scamming viewers and members. During this process, religion loses its authenticity. Religion is not being practiced on television, it is being mocked. Religion is no longer for worship, but for entertainment.…
