Chapter One
Apocrypha: a misleading term that means hidden (name given to books that were designated deuterocanonical and belonged to a second cannon)
Canon: the technical term for the official list of books comprising the Bible by a religious community.
Former Prophets: consists of the books of Joshua, Judges, Samuel, and kings, which continue the narrative chronology of the Torah.
Hebrew Bible: old testament
Latter Prophets: the books named after individual prophets
Major Prophets: the longer books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel and the minor prophets
Minor Prophets: the twelve shorter books from Hosea through Malachi
Old Testament: is a different canon in terms of both content and order of the books
Prophets: second part of the canon in Jewish tradition (Has two divisions, former prophets and latter prophets)
Tanakh: the bible for jews. Reffered to as the Hebrew bible.
Torah: first five book of the bible (Genesis, exodus, Leviticus, numbers, and Deuteronomy)
Writings: the third division of the jewish canon

In jewish teadition the bible has three parts, the Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings.
The Prophet has two divisions, Former prophets and latter prophets. Under latter prophets we have major prophets and minor prophets.

Chapter Two
Canaan: what is now called Israel (territory promised to Abraham)
Dead Sea: the lowest point on the land mass of the earth
Fertile Crescent: middle east meditaranean,
Israel: the promise land
Judah: the southern counterpart of the northern kingdom of Israel
Levant: the land just east of the Mediterranean sea “Near East” “Middle East”
Mesopotamia: the Greek designation of the land in the middle of the rivers
Promise Land: land promised to Abraham

Chapter Three
Anthropomorphic: humanlike
Cosmology: accounts of creation
Divine council: the assembly of the gods
Elohim:
Enkidu: a new creature made out of clay by mother goddess Aruru.
Enuma Elish: the Babylonian creation

    The three sections of the Hebrew bible are the Torah (the Teaching), Nevi’im (the Prophets), and Ketuvim (the Writings)(Molloy,2013). These sections are also known as Tanakh or Tanak. The sacred core of the Hebrew Bible is the Torah. The Torah consist of the stories of Adam and Eve, the creation, Hebrew patriarchs and matriarchs, Noah and the Hebrew’s early ancestors (Molloy,2013). Torah also introduces the lawmaker Moses and his brother, the founder of priesthood Aaron. Books in Torah include: Genesis (Bereshit), Exodus (Shemot), Leviticus (Vayiqra), Numbers (Bemidbar)and Deuteronomy (Devarim) (Molloy,2013). The second part of the Tanakh is known as the Prophets.
